    Default Happy Guy Fawkes/Bonfire Night!

Remember, remember the Fifth of November,
    The Gunpowder Treason and Plot,
    I know of no reason
    Why the Gunpowder Treason
    Should ever be forgot.
Guy Fawkes, Guy Fawkes, t'was his intent
To blow up the King and Parli'ment.
    Three-score barrels of powder below
    To prove old England's overthrow;
By God's providence he was catch'd
With a dark lantern and burning match.
Holloa boys, holloa boys, let the bells ring.
Holloa boys, holloa boys, God save the King!
And what should we do with him? Burn him!

Ah the most pointless of English celebrations!
Here's to the celebration of a 400 year old tradition of celebration the crushing of high treason against our noble country! God save the Queen!

I hope the orghas from the UK will take the time to set of some fire works or at least burn some stuff, if not tonight the weekends always a great time for a bonfire.

There are times I wish they’d just ban everything- baccy and beer, burgers and bangers, and all the rest- once and for all. Instead, they creep forward one apparently tiny step at a time. It’s like being executed with a bacon slicer.

What a coincidence, I named my piano Fate.

Ditto that. It's probably on my personal top ten list.

In the film's cast interviews, probably my favorite one was with Sinéad Cusack, who played Dr. Delia Surridge. She said that her fellow Northern Irelanders(?) are fond of saying that Guy Fawkes was the only man who entered Parliament with honest intentions.

Indeed. The honest intent to blow the bloody thing up.

As to the plot itself. I read an article recently that suggested that the papist part of the plot was pure spin. As was stated there were many catholics due to attend parliament that day. The real reason, the article goes on to say, was the new union between Scotland and England. It seems that the English courtiers felt like foreigners in the own court, such was the number of Scottish hangers on that Jimmy fetched down with him, possibly from Govan.

Anyway, it seems that the people of London were fearful of this Scottish 'invasion' of the capital and that the plot itself was just part of an overall plan to ethnically cleanse London of Scots. Having lived in Scotland and been subject to their 'hospitality' one can only sympathise.
