    Default AI Amphibious Invasion

    Hi Orgers,

I put the game down a long time ago due to bugs etc. and thought I'd have another crack now the final patch is out. It does seem to play a lot better now but I still find there are some serious issues.

Could someone explain this one to me? I have naval units in the ports of both the Windward and Leeward islands yet in a single turn, a Maratha stack magically appears on the Windward Islands and takes the region. Don't get me wrong, it's great to see the AI doing amphibious invasions now but when I assault in this manner I am forced to wait until the next turn before I can move the land units I put ashore.

Is this another example of the AI "cheating" like when they know the exact location of a weakened fleet in the middle of the ocean and move directly to its position or when their units "know" to turn around when you click on grape shot? Or am I missing something?

    Thanks,

    M
    and New Zealand.

I have had AI do naval invasions, but still so they can only land in one turn and need to wait for another to move. Don't know is it a bug or what, but it sure feels like cheating that AI can find you anywhere on the campaign map.

I've also had Maratha land troops on the beaches in the Windward Islands (not at the port as I've got a unit of dragoons there) and they still had to wait a turn before they assaulted the town.

...but if you leave the ports unguarded, they can arrive and assault your town in the same turn.

There are a couple "magic" spots where you can land a force on a beach close enough to a town where it can automatically assault the town on the same turn. I have done it a couple of times myself.

If there is no such spot, it's sometimes possible to land a stack with slow moving units like artillery in it, and then be able to split your stack since your infantry has movement left for some reason, bringing you close enough to the region capital to assault, with your artillery as reinforcements. But I doubt the AI does that :p

It really seems to go for undefended islands now though. I had both Russia and Venice sail half way around the world to declare war on me by invading Montagnais and Windward Islands respectively. How they could possibly know the garrison size of an island in the carribean is a mystery to me though...

I was playing my first full campaign on Normal difficulty and had finally got control over Poland and Austria. Then out of no-where comes a ship stack from Maratha Confederacy and lands a 20 unit elite stack at my port in East Prussia, conquers Konnigsberg and continues on to conquer West Prussia as well. This is all in the same turn, fleet comes out of nowhere and conquers two provinces all in one turn. I didn't know what to think of this. Maratha seems way over-powered as they seem to have a huge prestige lead in every campaign I've played so far. I wish I could just disable that faction.

    Haha.

Darthmod UC has an optional submod that puts them in check.

Were troubled, and the full-maned horses whirled
The chariots backward, knowing griefs at hand...

By default, they have the most powerful starting army on the map, I believe. Rather ridiculous, if you ask me.
