    Default Uesugi Campaign 1530

    Uesugi/Hard/1530/Huge units

1530, Kozuke province, the great lord Uesugi Tomooki had ordered the construction of watchtowers and the training of another unit of Yari Samurai, satisfied with this he decided to turn in for the night.

The following morning the great lord awoke to this:

"Rebels and bandit scum! Probably unwashed and filthy louts" thought Tomooki watching the rebels forces marching towards the castle from his window.

There was nothing else for it but to ride out to meet this new threat head on. Taking up a position in the hills Lord Uesugi awaited the arrival of the enemy. "do not loose any arrows until I give my signal".

The enemy began maneuvering for the Uesugi army's flank. Uesugi changed his army's facing in response. This paid off, causing the impatient ronin to attempt a frontal assault, uphill.

On the great lord's orders the archers loosed arrows into the mass of men scaling the hill in front of them. Rank upon rank of the ronin, samurai and ashigaru alike, were cut down. Lord Uesugi ordered the charge and the enemy were finished.

It was a significant victory, though more significant than even Lord Uesugi could imagine...

While Lord Uesugi was busied defendig Kozuke, his enemy Lord Hojo siezed the opportunity to invade Musashi.

The isolated troops bid farewell to their families and marched to the bridge. Outnumbered they formed up and prepared to fight for their lives.

Lord Hojo sent his archers across the bridge first. The Yari Samurai fought honourably with cover from their own archers...

Eventually the last man fell and the archers drew their katanas and fought to the death...

Lord Uesugi's position is now precarious. The ronin in the region have shown themselves to be ruthless and with Lord Hojo and other rivals waiting to pounce, Uesugi Tomooki must now prepare for the inevitable war that is to come.

Notes: Started the campaign, queued one unit of YS, and watchtowers in each province and was attacked in both provinces as soon as I hit end turn.

Dang, that's a harsh start. Never seen the AI be that aggressive, though the R&R are much fiestier in the 1530/1550/1580 scenarios.

    Winter 1530, Kozuke province...

Lord Uesugi, satisfied with the average harvest, prepares to fortify his position. Whilst inspecting the troops he is disturbed by a messenger riding furiously towards them. The exhausted man prostrates himself. "Rebels... bandits!"

The rebels turn up in significant number. The Uesugi clan forces well outnumbered.
    "how many?"
"at least seven hundreds my Lord".
Lord Uesugi begins strapping on his armour...

Inspired by Lord Uesugi's reputation, the troops form up on the crest of the hill. Soon the enemy emerge through the tree line, but the Uesugi forces remain motionless awaiting the Lord's signal.

The enemy charge forward and the battle begins. The archers loose their arrows on Lord Uesugi's orders and the Yari Samurai hold their positions. Finally the enemy begin to break.

The rebel leader is pursued by the Daimyo...

    ...and falls.

Of Lord Uesugi's men, most return home though some were not so lucky. Still there honour was great.

    Notes: And still no respite...

Well if there had been any WM, I was probably gone in the first season...

This will make up a nice campaign; at least Kozuke is rich, but not as rich as Sagami and Musashi (together). Seems to me like you need to persuade Hojo to ally (or at least ceasefire) with you once you feel that your Kozue garrison is adequate and make a move for Echigo to balance out the economic game with Hojo.

In Kozuke, apart from the central hill there is another one in the right of the defender as an alternative (with a forest for archer cover).

A promising start; we wait on our toes for more (heads for the soup) Lord Asai.

    1531 - 1533, Kozuke province...

The enemy attack incessantly. With supplies running short and most of the army either dead or wounded, the brave Samurai of the Uesugi clan fight on...

    Battle after battle...

Vastly outnumbered, they defy all odds...

Finally in the Spring of 1533, the ronin attack in full force... The great Lord fights until the bitter end...

    But defeat is inevitable...

    RIP.

    Notes: Non stop aggression!

I actually managed a Hojo ceasfire, but the rebels wouldn't let up. I also went for Echigo and won it, but made the mistake of leaving a garrison in Kozuke (which in hindsight I probably should have abandoned).

Harsh. Looks like you couldn't train enough to replace your losses. Yeah, a wholesale switch to echigo could have helped.

Sometimes before you get cavalry, it's helpful to manuever at the start so that the enemy has to run through you when it routs. You can slaughter the whole army that way. Nothing more annoying than trying to chase down yari samurai with yari samurai.

For the most part I used the Daimyo for chasing down routers, he did well enough though and gained quite a bit of honour.

Your honor is still great. Perhaps in another life you will succeed...

There is no dishonour in death in battle, is way of the warrior.

Unlucky mate. The situation you found yourself in seems pretty normal for those starting conditions with Uesugi.

P.s glad tp see so much activity in the dojo recently :)

Losing is part of playing the game... in fact I have just lost my first battle at MTW as well...

I've had this happen before, but it's usually after I decide to take in the rebels in the first few seasons. This was on the very first click of the end turn button...
