    Default Easier to Migrate?

I was just playing Denmark and getting frustrated seeing as i have Poland as my vassal, but they were allied with the HRE and would stop being my vassal if i attacked them. It was tough for me to expand after taking the rebel cities without attacking a faction and then have a whole alliance chain declare war on me. Then i thought, why don't you just migrate to the Holy Lands?

Just get a diplomat to the pope as soon as you can and tribute him enough till u can call a crusade. Move your whole faction except for one or two unit as basic garrison as crusaders. You don't even need to pay upkeep for a few turns and you get a huge army when you arrive at your destination. Also, it is incredibly easy to expand once you get there since lots of nice rebel cities are available to take. You can easily take Adana, Aleppo, Antioch, Edessa, Damascus, Jerusalem, and that one castle north west of Jerusalem. That is seven cities right there and you are in good position to take over Egyptian or Turkish lands without interference from European politics.

You know what's funny? I did EXACTLY that, same circumstances... I was playing as Denmark and my Prince needed a crusade to prepare him for the rigorous role of king. So I sent him out and conquered Jerusalem, Antioch, Caesarea, Damascus, Acre, Jerusalem, etc., etc. When I got done though, the Holy Land looked a heck of a lot better than Europe. So I pumped out like twenty priests, converted all of the holy lands to catholicism, and then moved the rest of my armies over from the Fatherland. As a parting action, I gave my five territories to the Pope (2) and the HRE (3, in exchange for cash). My boys are livin' it up now with the sandy beaches and tan women....

True, see my thread on Migration

To many (including me) that isnt true migration, as it abuses the crusades. True migration is something like England on turn one, sending 20 units to Antioch, and having no units in any town/castles execpt for one, to make sure you dont get eliminated before you reach your destination.

I'm thinking I might try a Turkish migration to Iberia, as a safer home base and easier stepping stone to the New World. Might have to push my Islamic brothers off the peninsula though, to avoid too much involvement too soon with Western Europe, which could get tricky... at least in role-playing terms. But the plan really doesn't work without attacking the Moors, eventually. Also it will take a few turns to get moving, since I think they don't start with any boats.

I tried this and i did it the right way. Because migration is not keeping city's in your old realm ;p. I started as milan, put all my troops straight away on boats. Gave away one city(milan), sold all building in Genoa with low tax. By the time i reached jerusalem i had - 6000 cash . I took jerusalem and gave away my last city Genoa to the papal states. Facing a huge debt a muslim territory which didnt allow for high taxes made this game really challenging. (until people were actually converted to catholicism) So yeah that left me with two options, disband half the army to cut the costs or quickly grab 5 more city's to get income up. Of course i chose the last and quickly present day Israël was under my control. With Egypt still at war with mebecause of Jerusalem this was a fun start When i finally managed to have money again i build up my city's, made a little fighting force and marged for Caïro. Egypt pretty much used a lot of forces already trying to defend the Holy land so i managed to capture their capital without to much problems. Than the Turks got pissed for no reason and decided to backstab me. Their king sieged one of my undefended towns(only 1 militia) :( , so i killed him with my Jerusalem army

I joined one little crusade vs antioch , giving my troops some extra experience. (couldnt hire any crusader troops though, because i had no money at the time )

The only really positive thing is that i can actually build hospitaller knights :D and the byzantines now joined my battle against the turks.

that's how far i have gotten so far. i'll try to keep you guys updated :D

reading this post made me want to do a migrate so i made a semi-migration for a new campaign with Denmark. I dont want to go somewhere very far on my first try. I joined all the units in Arhus with the army, made the city to low taxes with happiness 90% and then marched through Poland, HRE, Venice, Milan, and finally taking Rome. lol unfortunately the pope is outside the city when i attacked. I made Rome the new Danish capital and sold Arhus to the Portuguese.
