After a few months of not touching ETW with a barge pole, being as i was so fed up with the seemingly endless fail, I decided to give it another go over the last few days. This is the first time I've played since 1.5 (And also the first time I've played as Austria) and my first impressions are that it's pretty much the same as it was before.
I've noticed 2 improvements:
1. My rakes are actually successful sometimes now. Pre 1.5 They were, quite frankly, a waste of space, to the extent that I used to knock down every single brothel etc. that was on my turf. I may well keep one from now on.
2. Diplomacy AI seems to be rather better than before. It's not perfect, but generally, the countries who should, by logic, be allied or trading with me, are accepting the relevant proposals, sometimes even seeking them. Also, alliances and trade partnerships seem to actually be improving my relations with these nations, as they should be.
Prussia seems to have remained impervious to the diplomatic improvements, however, as I recently discovered when they paid me for a trade agreement. They then cancelled the trade agreement 2 turns later, and on the very next turn paid me again (3 times the original amount) for a new trade agreement.
I was also bemused by Prussia's decision, in about 1703, to build a half-decent fleet, load a half-stack army onto it, and sail it all the way around Europe to invade Algeria![]()
