I no I do this usually, shamefully
However I assure you I did read every part of this, and its not easy given the amount you type

Fell through the cracks... he's added now.
And about the rules being long.... yeah.

I know from a host perspective, you want to make sure the players understand the rules of the game as you envision it. The trouble is, when they see a wall of text to read the first impression is that there's not much fun ahead.
It's a real shame because once you understand the rules, the actual gameplay should be very simple and easy to manage. The main things you have to know are: to not break the communication rules, to remember to send in a (move/don't move) order, and if you move you must tell me what behavior you use when you get there (berserker/assassin/vigilante/stealth/search/cooperation etc) and always, when a battle happens, you gotta let me know... should you stay or should you go? You honestly don't need to understand all the little bits of info about the game as long as you remember this purple paragraph.
That's basic stuff. The rest is just informing you what the limits to the game are, what kind of options you have, background story and miscellaneous trivia, plus the Map and the FAQ section.

If you want to simplify it, most people just call me Wish.

How will player starting positions be determined in this game?
He is probably using random org, but don't hold me to it.
Diamondeye 22:39 11-20-2009
I'm calling dibs on not starting between two zombies, in that case. I don't know how your experiences with random number generators (RNGs) are here on The Guild, but we Civilization fanatics know from experience that it is never to be trusted
Stildawn 23:08 11-20-2009
I believe that there are no "Zombies" players at game start.... There is how every a Zombie Horde which he will move around till there enough dead people to actually play Zombies lol.

I'll play

On the map, I have allotted starting positions to be more or less evenly spaced at the sides of the map, with the anti-town forces scattered in a non-concentrated fashion on all sides of the board. No one will be forced to start in a group, as I originally conceived, because it's entirely possible such a group would already be infiltrated with a baddie who wants you dead, and they could elect to try to kill you (and succeed) on the very first round. I decided that wasn't fair on anyone, and if you wish to form alliances, you'll have to do it the manual way.
I am mulling the prospect of allowing a one-time-only alliance offer to the players adjacent to you on the map on the first round, before play begins. If both parties accept, they will be told which grid coordinate to meet on, and when they both do this in "cooperation" mode, they will become allies.
That way you are never forced into a group or an alliance, you may decline anonymously at the start, but you're also able to gain immediate allies if you wish. I am thinking this is a fair compromise which allows cooperation with the same element of risk (there's no guarantee your new ally is actually friendly to you) but at the same time, present everyone a chance of teaming up right from the start, when they are weaker and more vulnerable.
As for the specific starting location, that's determined based on which character you receive. I decided it was overpowered to allow the powerful/evil characters to start next to one another, where they can immediately group with one another (they start off allied!) and destroy a huge swath of townies. It's no fun being
OMGWTH owned by a group of baddies on turn one or two which are basically unbeatable at the beginning of the game, since you're without fancy weaponry or allies of your own.

Oh the random number generator is pretty much a sentient evil force over here as well. But you will not ever be forced to fight zombies except by your own choices in this game. There's a chance for all players to evade them right from the beginning because they start in the center of the map and move in a random direction until players start dying and start replacing the non-player character zombies as player character zombies. Then the horde goes wherever the zombie players want themselves to go.

In.
Askthepizzaguy 04:06 11-21-2009
Welcome, Major Robert Dump!
I also want to welcome another player from Total War Center, Confederate Jeb, who so kindly agreed to join the game as well. We are approaching our minimum attendance... I'm very happy.
Frozen In Ice 00:25 11-22-2009
I'm already on the list but I'm just posting here to confirm that I am in.

Major Robert Dump 21:15 11-23-2009
I want to be a zombie doberman, pls. Or Mila Jovanovichs panties.
Major Robert Dump should be a doppelgänger.
Askthepizzaguy 22:19 11-23-2009
Those of you who actually want to be a zombie, I ask you this favor:
Please attempt to kill as many players as possible while you're still alive. Don't just act in suicidal fashion.... at least be homicidal.
Stildawn 01:12 11-24-2009
Evil lol
So whens this show going on the road...
And lol I know Im jumping the gun here... But I hope you will repeat this game a few times lol its sounds interesting enough that I would like to play it more than once..... You could even sent others the 'Running Package" so that you can join in next time..
Id be willing to take a turn as the host for it... If you teach me lol.
Askthepizzaguy 01:31 11-24-2009
Actually, this game is part of a trilogy I have in mind.
The first chapter is called "
Exodus", as it represents the escape from Dark Falls. There will be a continuation to the story and future games based off of that, assuming most people have a good time and there's demand for it. The second chapter's story will be based off of the events of this game, which obviously haven't happened yet. So you will all be assisting me in writing the story... it is being written as it happens. Depending on which faction wins, and which characters die, chapter two could look very different.
I'll also be able to fully iron out the kinks and tweak the gameplay, so I know the second one will be even better.
As for hosting a game like this; my advice would be to host a much smaller and less involved game first, so you won't be shocked by the amount of work it will be. If you can do that and people enjoy it, you can host a larger one... this particular one is huge/massive by battle royale standards, and I do believe hosting it will take me 20 hours or more a week, and that's with really fast reading-comprehension/typing ability. I don't recommend hosting a game like this until you've hosted a really big mafia game at least once. This one will be daunting for
me, and I'm Wall-Of-Text Man, with the incredible superpower to type so much that no one wants to even take a stab at reading it.
----
It doesn't look like I am going to get the 70-80 players that I had envisioned, but there's still lots of unread invites, and there is little point in beginning the game before thanksgiving; half of you will get your orders in, and the other half will not.
Stildawn 01:58 11-24-2009
Lol I wasnt suggesting me straight away but others use to running large games..
The three part thing sounds awesome lol. But yeah would still love to play it more than one... Perhaps when the three are done you could cycle again or is that asking too much lol.
