    Default EB TrivialScript Error

    Hello

I just reinstalled EB 1.1 (no 1.2 just yet) and tried modifying EB Preferences. What came up was -

    "EB TrivialScript Error
can't open file 'EB/preferences/preferences.txt' (error 3: the system cannot find the path specified)"

I checked and found out that I don't have this file. Furthermore, when I attempt to open EB TrivialScript in Program Files this error came up:

"Row 0 Description: Failed to open file"

I have a clean 1.1 installation, however I use Windows 7. Can anyone help me with this problem here?

    Thanks in advance,

No, this is a typical first-run problem. Try using the Configuration shortcut first, click the ‘preferences’ button to set a couple; alternatively use a direct shortcut to launch EB (the installer should have created one, but many people reported that shortcut to be broken) because RTW will automatically (re-)generate that preferences file.

The preferences file the program refers to is a file with RTW preferences some of which are a bit obscure but really useful -- and the Trivial Script comes with a little GUI to configure some of the more obscure ones.

The reason why you cannot run the Trivial Script directly from Program Files is because it must interpret an XML file which it is referred to by means of a command line parameter. And when you run the program like you did, that file will not be specified among the commandline arguments and hence cannot be found. In case you wonder why that XML file is so important: it is in fact a description of the GUI that the Trivial Script must ‘generate’.
