Playing A Game I Own Is Very Difficult...

I really want to re-install medieval 2 total war on my computer, I own it but deleted it to make way for Empire's (if I knew empires would be so 'meh' i wouldnt have bothered) but around the same time my disk drive broke Empires runs on steam so i dont need a disk but medieval 2 on the other hand....

Well doesn't anyone know anyway I can play medieval 2 without a disk drive legally? Is there a way the medieval total war 2 information can be transferred without getting it directly from a disk (memory stick?) Any help would be appreciated, baring in my mind I don't plan of buying a disk drive anytime soon unless it's dirt cheap.

P.s: the main reason for reinstalling it is to play broken crescent again, I loved that mod!

I don't know what copyright law in England allows, specifically for personal backup copies of something you own.

What you could do, is borrow a friend's DVD's and install, using your own CD key. You SHOULD still have the CD key, which is really the biggest thing you need to hang on to. It is unique to you and proof that you bought the game, and allows you to install and play online. You would have to obtain something that lets you play without the DVD though, which is where English law comes into play, and I have no idea what that entails.

Whacker - if I'm not mistaken, his DVD is fine, it's his drive that's broken.

Unfortunately, you have to have the DVD in the drive when you play, so I'm guessing it may very well be illegal to install a cracked copy. An option you could look into would be making an .iso from the DVD and then mounting that with something (don't remember what Windows uses to mount ISOs). However, the copy protection might break that.

Whatever the case you will need a CD/DVD drive at some point. A typical SATA DVD writer will set you back about £20.00 and can read both CDs and DVDs (including Rs and RWs etc).

Really? I was told there like £70 ($120) !!!
If I can get it for that price I happily would, but the other issue is I wouldn't have a clue on how to put it into my modem or take the existing one out, I'm not tech savvy. I know you can get separate disk drives that you don't need in your modem, but I got the impression they were even more expensive. Plus getting a professional to fix it in would probably got a lot in itself seeing as I don't know what the heck I'm doing lol.

TY for responses guys, btwby disk drive I mean DVD too, it's like a 2 in 1 and is the only disk slot I have on my computer box thingy (used to call it a modem but realized that was the wrong word)...

You have one slot in your case, this is fine, you can get a DVD/CD Combo drive for that price.

I'm more than happy to walk you through it when you get it, as others are I'm sure. Learning to build a computer yourself is a lot of fun. I did my first one in march, since then I've done 3 for work and one for myself. All work fine.
