K, i've read the guides, but does anybody have any suggestions for what faction i should play?
Quintus.JC 22:28 11-29-2009
Julii.
Flavius Julius 22:30 11-29-2009
K, thanks, i'll be starting the campaign soon.
Flavius Julius 22:48 11-29-2009
Hmm.. new question. What city should I go for first, and then which way should I expand to best bring the whole world under my rule?
pevergreen 00:31 11-30-2009
Grab the small rebel city just above you, on the left. (Segesta?) War with the Gauls is going to come, build up a sizeable force and take the two cities(Patvium and something) to cement your holdings in Northern Italy.
You can then expand eastwards, there are two/three (One may be taken) rebel cities that way, but this may lead to war with Germany/Thrace/Dacia/Macedon.
Westward is another rebel city, then Gaul. A good way to proceed if you are looking to hold in one spot is to take that city, then either go northward or eastward.
You can also naval-grab Caralis, the island west of Italy. Do this early or someone else may grab it.
Eventual directions should be to control Iberia, right up through germany, to the Sycthia border. the Brutii should go through Greece and into Asia minor, while the Scipii should come up against the Egyptians, down through carthage and Numidia.
Flavius Julius 00:33 11-30-2009
Thanks, gonna be starting my campaign now that i've done my research.
pevergreen 00:35 11-30-2009
Have fun, let us know how you go.
Flavius Julius 00:57 11-30-2009
First few turns went well. Was able to take that one rebel settlement and the gaul settlement with the port. My capitol is cranking out hastati, so my military is looking pretty good. Few close calls in a field battle I had with 600 of their soldiers vs 300 of mine.

Tough battle, almost lost it. Lost about 30% of my force, and almost lost my general but I still won. Next turn their settlement was mine

Will be posting more soon!
pevergreen 01:00 11-30-2009
Nice start, soon Europe will fall before your lovely Hastati.
Mmmm. Hastati.

Well, just lost my 2nd best general because he wasn't attacking some spearmen that were stabbing him

. Good general, may he rest in peace

. Took the 2nd gallic settlement, decided to move my main force west, and have picked up a couple of barb mercs. Soon, all of western europe will be mine. Also building up a force to go take on those greeks. From what i've read, trade there is good. Just hope I can beat the Brutii to the good stuff.
Flavius Julius 02:12 11-30-2009
Took the rebel settlement to the west and the other gaul settlement just west of it. Lost 60% of my army in 2 battles though, along with my faction leader.

Also, my attack on greece has been pushed back for 2 reasons. 1, a senate mission had me on my way to a war with carthage, so far i've taken lilybauem from them, and 2, those macedonians are starting to scare me with their empire.

Gonna have to stop my advance into whatever part of europe i'm going to, unless I want to lose my 1 and only attacking/homeland defense force. So, i'm currently stretched thin, and taking heavy losses in europe, thanks to their forests that they can hide in over there.

Any ideas on what I should do now?
Flavius Julius 02:44 11-30-2009
Lost my whole european steamroller force in a settlement that is now under gaul control, and the alliance that me and the germans had was betrayed when they sieged another town. With my most powerful armies in africa and greece, things aren't looking good.

Starting to retrain my force in italy, but I most likely wont be in time to save Massilia.
pevergreen 03:01 11-30-2009
Oh no!
Could you give a screenshot or two so I can see whats happening?
On the generals, and cavalry in general: Charge, then withdraw, they get cut down so fast in a protracted melee. I've killed off over 1200 gauls only yesterday (this is on normal unit sizes as well) with just 200 horse. Charge in the rear, while the hastati/others have them tied up in melee. Once they flee, have the foot charge someone else, cav can either capture or charge again.
Flavius Julius 03:18 11-30-2009
Heh. TY for that tip. But... how do I take screenies?
pevergreen 03:36 11-30-2009
I can't remember if there is an ingame shortcut...try f12, then check the main RTW folder for something...
Otherwise, printscreen, then go into something like MSPaint, and hit paste.
Sorry for taking so long to reply!
Flavius Julius 03:44 11-30-2009
NP, so what would I be looking for in the RTW folder to make me able to take screen shots, and how do I post them after that? My empire is going down the drain. My force in greece was absolutely slaughtered, and I lost Massilia. But, there is some hope. A new, promising general is leading a huge force into western europe currently, and Carthage is mine.
pevergreen 03:46 11-30-2009
Sounds good.
When/if you find them, go to a hosting website like
https://imageshack.us/ and upload it from there.
Once its uploaded, it should give you a whole bunch of options, simple one is to take the "Link for forums" option, copy and paste into a post here.
If it gives you two options for forums, it doesnt matter, Org will accept them both.
Flavius Julius 03:48 11-30-2009
Sorry for my computer stupidity, but where would I find the take screen option in the RTW folder?
pevergreen 03:52 11-30-2009
I don't remember.
At work, so i can't check...
Let me do some searching.
Flavius Julius 03:54 11-30-2009
Heh, ty.

About to take back Massilia with a full stack army!

Also, my army that i'm building in Carthage is almost complete! Soon those clowns will face my wrath!

pevergreen 04:00 11-30-2009
Yeah, Carthage. They'll get whats coming to them.
The only way to take screenshots is to use the Printscreen button and go to MSPaint, through the program files in your start bar.
Flavius Julius 04:07 11-30-2009
And then I copy and paste into a post?

As above.

Sorry for double post, here's my land in Africa and my two main armies

European army

African army

And there you have it, my current state of affairs
pevergreen 04:30 11-30-2009
Go up and take gaul, try to avoid war with Spain if you can, but if you can't, hold off the Gauls and take the Iberian penisula. Then push forward to the german border, hold and take Britan, then through germany to Sythcia.
I wouldn't do much more in africa. Maybe grab one or two more along the northern sea towards spain, but hold and get the land you need in europe.
Have you patched the game at all?
Flavius Julius 04:32 11-30-2009
Yes, 1.5. Ok, got a newly built army in Italy now, should be beyond easy to take Europe. In Africa, i'm going to take Tingi so I can use it as a base to launch amphibious assault against Spain from. Things are looking up now.
