Thread: EB can't recognize Alexander disk?

Default EB can't recognize Alexander disk?

Okay, I want to play EB on alex, so I downloaded and installed EB 1.1 and 1.2 and the alex mini mod pack, but every time I try to start EB, the alex icon comes up and then an error message pops up saying that i need to insert the correct CD, although I have the alex disk in the drive. Anyone know what is going on here? I put the normal RTW disk in and EB ran just fine and alex runs just fine when I play the expansion, so I know the disk works.

EDIT: Okay, I'm getting very frustrated because I just uninstalled and reinstalled everything, and yet the same error keeps coming up. I know the alex CD works because I can play the expansion just fine, but for some reason EB will not run off of it even though it will run off of the RTW disk. I followed the instructions in Lz3's mini mod pack thread for the alex install, but it still won't work. When I try to run EB on alex off of the "Play Single Player" icon, it says it can't find the disk, and when I try the "Run Europa Barbarorum" icon, it says it can't find the mss32.dll file. Thanks!

Update: After yet another complete re-installation going exactly to the instructions in the mini-mod thread (and also a registry cleanout to make sure that wasn't the issue), the 'insert correct CD' message is still popping up when I try to play. I checked to see if the vanilla alex expansion is working and it is. This is so frustrating as I bought alex just to play EB on it, I would very much appreciate any help!

If you followed instructions perfectly, then the mini-mod will work fine without having to mod any shortcuts. You should be able to run it by using the "play single player" shortcut, which is using trivial script.

You can look at the properties of that icon to see if the paths are what they should be. The first path should just be opening the "single player" for trivial script. The second path should be where your Alex.exe is located at.

    Mine look like the following:

    "C:\Program Files\EBTrivialScript\EBTrivialScript.exe" -s ebconfig.xml -runeb -type "Single Player"

    "C:\Program Files\The Creative Assembly\Rome - Total War"

All .exe's are in my "Rome - Total War" folder, because I installed all programs there (RTW, Alex, EB 1.1 & 1.2), which is what I want.

My best guess is that you didn't install Alexander where you installed everything else, put it is hard to know what exactly is going on. Just know that if done right, it should all work just fine.

Imo, the following "mod" is almost perfect:

For installation process, I followed the following: RTW Gold > Alexander > EB 1.1 > 1.2 > Official Fixes > 1.2 Mini Mod Pack 3.1 > LZ3's Custom EB Fix Adaptation > Phalanx Mod > RS Textures > Naval Strat Map Add On > Lysander's Sihunet Formations Adaptations > EOM 4 Carthaginian Governors Edition > Atraphoenix' RS Legions Adaptation For ALEXANDER EB > Getting Rid Of The Giant Trees Mod > (I've also modded the Roman reforms to happen sooner, deleted 7 files/folders to get rid of window lights and torches for night battles, and added 3 SKYMOD_BI .txt files for night lighting.) - The only thing missing is a 12 turns per year mod, maybe 6 tpy instead.

First check your shortcut-properties, if there are any spelling mistakes.
I would also recommend to install Alex on C:\ and not to any other HD.
If you still recieve bugs, I would also ask Maximus in his Alex-EB-thread.

I checked the path and it is exactly like yours, and the alex.exe is sitting right next to the rome.exe in the C:\Program Files\The Creative Assembly\Rome - Total War. My paths for Single Player look like this:

    "C:\Program Files\EBTrivialScript\EBTrivialScript.exe" -s ebconfig.xml -runeb -type "Single Player"

    "C:\Program Files\The Creative Assembly\Rome - Total War"

Like I said before, the alex.exe file is literally sitting right next to the rome.exe file in the RTW folder.

If someone could give me an exact guide to installing alex and EB where they should be, it would help me to see if I am putting it somewhere wrong. Thanks!

You can see the order that I installed everything by looking at my signature/spoiler.

The most relevant part is the following, RTW Gold > Alexander > EB 1.1 > 1.2 > Official Fixes > 1.2 Mini Mod Pack 3.1 > LZ3's Custom EB Fix Adaptation.

Just make sure all of that is installed in the same folder, except the official fixes and the adaptation fix, which go into the EB\data folder (I think). You can check by reading the install directions. Also make sure the mod pack download you get is the alex.exe one.

Okay, I think I may have screwed up where I installed the mini mod pack, I put it into the EB\data folder instead of the RTW folder. I will reinstall and try that, thanks!

Update: It works!!!! Thanks for your help, I must have done something wrong on the installation, but the reinstall seems to have fixed it!
