    Hey, as everyone else states the obvious in this forum, so will I.

    I'm new here.

    I have not graduated from the original MTW, and probably won't. I've gone as far as the Viking expansion, and I am working on some mods.

    That is why I am here.

    I have spent a lot of time trying to accomplish something, and now I have to admit to being stumped. I am asking for help.

    I have Medeival Total War (the 1st one) with the Viking Invasion expansion. I got this really bright idea of adding the factions from the Viking campaign into the original campaign. The idea is to put the Irish in Ireland, the Scots in Scotland, the Northumbrians in Northumbria, the Mercians in Mercia, the Welsh in Wales, the Saxons in Wessex, move the English to Flanders/Normandy/Brittany, the Picts to Friesland and the Vikings to Denmark, retaining all the Medieval: Total War factions. Each time I think I am making progress, well, something happens.

    Right now, I am working on the Irish.

    I can start the game. When I am at the "choose faction" screen, I can see Ireland in the correct color and I can see "The Irish" as the list of factions available. I can not start the game as the Irish faction; doing so causes the game to crash to the desktop. I can, however, start the game as a different faction. Occasionally, the game will crash spontaneously. When I press the "Alliances" button, I can see the Irish there. (There are no names, but I will work on that later, if I can get my present problem solved). The game can progress turn by turn without error until certain conditions are met, then the game errors out. When I choose .matteosartori. then the game will crash. When I move my emissary or another agent into Ireland, the game crashes.

    I believe what is going on is that the game is crashing each time an Irish unit becomes visible to the player.

    I have read through another old post about adding new factions. Most of the instructions I already knew, though I can still work on the Names thing and the Textures thing. The only difference, other than that, which I have done that this guy didn't is used FN_01 rather than FREE21.

    Does anyone have any idea what the problem is, or how to fix it?

    Welcome!

    I'm sorry I can't help you with the modding part, but I can help you by moving your thread to the Main Hall, the MTW part of this forum.

    Also, when modding, remember to distribute the camel-units evenly across the map as not to overpower a cerain faction...

    This guide may be useful.

    I think I had something similar, it has to do with the way the texture files are located. Ugh. Trying to remember exactly.

    A bit late in replying, hope you've not given up yet, but the main thing that leaps out is that you've used the FN_## terminology for your faction name - that's a VI thing... MTW (non-VI version) uses faction names, so maybe you should try the FREE21 after all.
