To fellow strategoi, chieftains, consuls, kings and pharaohs i need some help. I am currently writing about the status (or lack there of) of women in Celtic society (predominantly British isles but also continental Europe) and am struggling to find any articles or books that talk at legnth about the subject. Any reccomendations?

And please, please, please don't just say "Caesar describes the status of women" i have read what he said and I don't really believe it.

Then what sources would you use? The celts were not literate and their cultures were wiped by Romans and Germans before they could develop literacy.

However, is there not some Irish Poems etc from 5th century or so written down? I am almost certain there are.

Well there are the Irish law tracts and the early Welsh law texts. In particular i am looking for burials of females.

On the subject of Roman authors does anyone know who described Septimus Severus negotiations with the Caldeonians, need to find out the name of the Caledonian chieftains wife.

You could say the Celts placed a grater emphasis on memory and the mind then the pen and paper. The Celts were literate since the 7th century B.C. though they were not big on writing everything down.
