    Default Defective video card.

I have been having display issues with my rig. I see corruption on start up and black and white bars when the user login screen is supposed to come up. All I see is the cursor. I think my video card is defective. I purchased it a few months ago at Best Buy, so the return policy is probably no longer valid. The manufacturer is BFG. What should I do? Contact BFG for a replacement?

Sounds like damage from overheating. No idea what to do though.

Sounds like artifacts caused by damaged memory. Did you, by any chance, overlock the card?

What is their return policy? You should still be able to take/send it back if it's faulty - if not the card should have at least the standard 12 months manufacturer's warranty.

I did not modify the card's performance. Concerning the warranty, I can check tomorrow. I did not modify the card's performance. This is the card:

You can say you bought the card *recently* and one day when you turned your computer on it just *stopped* working.

Never ever ever ever tell them what the problem might be. Just pretend ignorance and say it stopped working. I once told BFG what I thought happened to the card and they said "Ha! Sucker thats 250$ you just lost and you aint gettin it back! Even though the card is only 2 weeks old"

I see it's an OC 'out of the box' job. You should try taking/sending it back. Contact the supplier first and see what they have to say. If they are no help, go to the manufacturer to get it replaced under warranty. Just describe the faults and if they ask whether you've OC'd it, simply answer no and refer to the "OC" in the product description (i.e. the card is already overlocked, so why would you want to OC it further?). This is not complicated, get it sorted out sooner rather than later.

I'll do this as soon as I am done with finals next week. I think the warranty is for a year, so there's some time left.

Also, I'm sticking to EVGA and newegg for parts from now on...

Not exact wording... but imply that it is recent and that it just stopped working.

Bestbuy is one of the worst places for pc parts. Saw my same exact 9800+ in there for 500$ when I bought it on new egg for 150$

I just read their warranty mircoprint. You have to register the product within thirty days to get the lifetime warranty. Improper registrations only only get a one year warranty. I got this thing in September. I hope I didn't screw up.

Very bad luck, that's often the case though I'm afraid. None registration gives you the statutory 12 months, anything more you have to either register for, or pay extra for.

OK, so do I register and complain or complain and then register if they force me to?

If I understand this correctly, you didn't register the product for the lifetime warranty? The standard 12 month warranty ended in September this year? If this is the case then you are very much out of luck, sorry. All you can do is try contacting the manufacturer and hope for the best.

Got a GTX 275 as a replacement. It's obvious that it has been used before, but hopefully I won't have to send it back.
