Couldn't find an appropriate thread, so I hope you don't mind me starting a new one. Just wanted to express my thanks to the EB team for your great work. EB is more than just a mod/game: it's a gateway to the ancient world. I personally haven't the time to study the period properly, so it's only through this mod and the occasional threads on this forum that I am able to learn about it. Also, as I come from an area where ancient history is still used in popular politics to serve various ends, it's a much appreciated change to visit a forum where the only thing that matters is the truth.

Also, I'm very much looking forward to the (very pretty) EBII.

SO true! I have learnt more from EB about ancient history than I have from all the schooling and history channel combined!

EB changed my whole perspective on world history. (No lie) I could elaborate, but no one here probably cares.

Nkay, what you guys say about history is pretty scary...
EB is really good, but dont use it as an source for historical knowledge.

I dont doubt the credibility of the makers, but off course they too had to make compromises to make the game.

I myself knew very little of the time period myself, and sadly to say... this game has made me interested in classical history. I was usually just into American and British history around and found classical history to be much more badass after I started reading about it. My only problem is I read two books and they kinda contradict each other like in a book of "A history of Rome" by M.Cary and H.H scullard says well after Rome beat Carthage it mentions they worked the fields in contradiction to some other book I read that mentions they used salt to destroy the fields.... Other than the many contradictions or thoughts with authors its pretty interesting. lol

On the topic of historical reliability however. Am I wrong in understanding that all the descriptions for buildings, units, factions and provinces that the team provides are, unless noted, as historically accurate as they can make them?

From their writing style it seems to me they're very precise about qualifying their comments on what is historically corroborated between sources, what is inferred and what is merely guessed.

I don't see how a book published by a university press is any more or less historically accurate than their accumulated data. Compared to the internet in general I'd say EB is to be believed even more.

That is true, indeed. Furthermore there are great holes in our knowledge of even well-documented factions such as Rome, so much of EB isn't a 100% accurate reconstruction, but rather a "best guess" at how it was.

However, EB is based on primary sources and has been made by professional historians. This is probably as accurate as a computergame is ever going to get.
