On the topic of historical reliability however. Am I wrong in understanding that all the descriptions for buildings, units, factions and provinces that the team provides are, unless noted, as historically accurate as they can make them?

From their writing style it seems to me they're very precise about qualifying their comments on what is historically corroborated between sources, what is inferred and what is merely guessed.

I don't see how a book published by a university press is any more or less historically accurate than their accumulated data. Compared to the internet in general I'd say EB is to be believed even more.
