Default The birth and coming of age of FMs

    Hiiii!

So I am currentely playing a Romani campaign for my AAR. The year is 100 BC, a few years ago I adopted a Somethingsomething Ivlivs Caesar to my family. This was quite exciting for me, not because I am adoring the historical Caesar so much, but rather that I need the name for later development (Kaiser, Tsar etc).
Now this Caesar is already in his late 50ies and Viagra is not available yet. I need this guy to give birth to a new Caesar, around this time (100BC - 95 BC). So I thought to make sure this guy does his job in bed, I would play till 95 BC and check if Daddy loved his Mommy enough? Is that a wise decission? Babies dropp "randomly" in EB right?

The second question is, at some point this baby boy will turn 16 and be a grown men, running off to conquer smelly people in the wild and try to bring down the republic. Do his traits (Sharp/Charismatic) get randomly chosen when he turns 16? Or do they get chosen already by birth? It would be awesome if Caesar is at least Charismatic, if he doesn't turn out like this I could reload, can I?

Well a lot of text for 2 simple questions, but anyhow, I already wrote it.

    Thanks in advance.

I'm pretty sure traits are decided at coming of age rather than birth, but then again that's also not a definite answer. Sorry.

If he dies, reload previous turn, repeat. Congrats alls your characters are immortal because their age rolls over to 1 at 127.

Traits are assigned at the character's coming of age. Some are influenced by his father's traits and by his gens trait.

So if his gens and daddy are known to have runny brains, there's a very good chance that his brain would be a leaky one too?

    That's great news.

So the only thing I need is to get the old Caesar to produce a baby.

Now I have noticed that turning from Spring 100 BC to Summer 100 BC I always get the same 3 children. That means that children are not generated randomly. Any thoughts on that?

If you haven't already, build a temple of Juno(Ivno) in the city he is residing in. This increases fertility thus increasing chances of having children. Not sure about the same 3 kids issue, but I thought it was pretty much random. Maybe not

Temple of Ivno increases the chance of having the "fertile" trait; it doesn't make your general fertile right away, so you'll want to stick him in town for a while.

Now, about the 3 kids issue, video games are not that random; if you reset the RNG (random number generator), you'll produce different results. So save your game in winter, send one or two spies or assassins (whether they succeed, fail or die trying is irrelevant) and end your turn. Rinse and repeat until you're satisfied.

One last word; the number of family members is directly linked to your number of provinces, so "cheating" with the RNG might not affect that. It's quite convinient for the coming of age of new FMs though, it saves you from "Son, you shall be called Disappointment #3"...

Of course, roleplaying "Disappointmentus Maximus" can be quite fun too. That's about the time my FMs become fathers that they start getting traits like "gloomy", "likes a drink", "under the weather" and "evil mother in law". Anyone noticed this ?

Really? And how exactly is to tied to the number of provinces? How many per province?

You know for the most part, sending failures on suicide missions is quite economical. Either they die and you get more people or they keep coming back and become both hilariously imbalanced and useful.

Did I catch that right? Save during winter, send two spies to a foreign town and play the whole next year waiting for results?

As for the provinces, I still get children. I already had a Caesar daughter at the first try.
As for roleplaying, yes I do that. But I cant ignore the fact that I will continue playing other mods during the future time line, and caesar simply had a huge effect on the world. He can be dull and all, but he should be charismatic in my eyes. Everything else will be roleplayed. If he likes a drink, boys or money, thats up to the game and will be reflected in my AAR.

    What you should do is:
    - send one spy
    - end turn
    - if the result is not satisfactory, reload
    - run the script
    - send two spies
    - end turn
    (...)
    -send three spies...

About FMs and # of provinces:

The ratio is roughly 1 family member for 2-3 provinces.
I thought it was in the "Hard-coded Limits" thread but it's not and I don't know where to find it.

Plus, EB has tweaked with Roman's fertility IIRC; they are less fertile than other factions to represent the fact that SPQR was not a dynasty. Less fertility but more adoptions to bring in new names in your faction.

That ratio was "empirically determined". We don't actually know the actual ratio, but it is something like that in vanilla R:TW.

Great news. A healthy Caesar baby boy was born in autum 99. Now let's see (RP wise) how he will destroy the Roman Republic.

A big thanks to all and escpecially to Poulp' for providing an accurate answer.

I know, but that does not matter at all. I'm just in for the name, not the historic person.

    True and not true.
The trick with save/reload cheating is to create a new save for each reload. Each individual savegame yields the same results, no matter how often you reload it. So just make a new save if you want to cheat. New save, new babies. The same is true for agent missions et al.
    For coming of age:
quicksave => end turn; if not the desired result, load your save, quicksave again immediately (or otherwise overwrite your savegame, but it is important to have a new save for every reload) => end turn; repeat until you are satisfied or sufficiently bored with cheating.

I wouldn't settle for less than "sharp/charismatic" in the context of your AAR.
A man with that effect on history should at least have some brain capacity.

Just my two cents. It's your call.

My thought exactly. It's not cheating, it's RP/story-telling.

Exactly, re-living history over and over until it turns out exactly how you want isn't cheating.... =\

I guess you're not familiar with the concept of his AAR, otherwise you wouldn't have made this kind of comment.

He needs to have a man called Caesar trying to take over the republic because he will be playing through history in other mods where the name Caesar has changed into titles like Kaiser or Tsar. He needs his alternate history to fit into the other mods he will be using, which means he will need a sharp and charismatic bloke called Caesar to take on the republic.

EDIT: Looking back I saw he explained it himself in the beginning of the thread. Oh well...
