Something you mafia players might wanna watch...

...And so, I'm meant to be doing course work for uni but i was taking a break whilst eating. bored whilst eating, i'd thought i'd have a look around on what i can watch and I came across the anime Death Note...

... And OMG, this is on another level, nothing i've seen before. This isn't your typical japanese anime/cartoon with "cute" characters with big boobs coupled with comedy, but this is serious stuff (with normal proportioned people and the art is excellent). I won't ruin the story, but its goes something like this:

A Genius one day picks up a "Death Note" which gives him power to kill people. He decides to use it on criminals to make a perfect world. However due to the sudden death of lots of criminals, police enlist a mysterious person called "L" to help them. They both vow to bring the other to justice. The story then goes on with a mafia game feel - the two geniuses play a lot of reverse psychology and testing each other, out-witting each other and there's so much more WIFOM than sasaki can put forward.

I wont go any further, but I seriously recommend this. I usually don't post stuff like this but Death Note has definitely grabbed my attention as a mafia player - i've just done a 10 episode marathon

have a look around and give it a try up to ep 3, there's places where you can watch this online or even download.....

Yeah, I think it would make a great setting for a mafia game.

thanks for the links, i didnt know if we were allowed to post that or not

but yea, i would make an excellent mafia game - i'm just watching it now and everytime they play mafia between the two, it gettings me thinking exactly the same things lol

and GH - if you REALLY do host something like this, i'd join right away

unless of course your top secret plan's to kill us all :/

We've been tossing the idea around for a while, but can't get the mechanics to work. No matter how you make it, be it a mafia game or something else, it gets kind of hard to balance things when everybody has a suspicion of who the villain is from the start and he can kill you all almost instantly.

Now that it's academic crunch time (speaking of which, why am I on the forums right now), we haven't been thinking about it much.

-edit- As for the links, I'm going to err on the side of caution for this one and remove them. For you Americans, Cartoon Network airs it, or at least it did during the summer. Not sure about anywhere else.

Been a big big fan of "L" for few years now

I agree this is a wonderful Anime, one of the best I've seen so far.

Another suggestion is "Liar Game" though its havn't turned into an anime yet.

I was thinking about a "True name" system of some sort...

Not sure how it would work.....(Misa) would be the only one with the Death eyes though....

Doing the eye deal taking half the life span doesn't get reflected on the game. So I'm not sure how we can use real names.

Just use player names with character settings, that should work I think.
