Playing As Minor Faction

I have decided to try out unlocking the minor factions and playing a campaign as them. However there are a couple of things that puzzle me.

I notice that as a number of the one province minors I have no military building slots. Can this be changed at any point? Based on population etc?

Without a barracks I cannot research military techs. However, I also cannot steal them either. Why?

I didn't notice these issues before since the intended playable factions always had the requisite buildings and building slots.

I can always go to war and take a province that has the buildings I need, it just has to be managed carefully since my military strength is naturally limited.

That is set by region, you can go edit some .pack files and change it if you wish.

You can't steal them? I have no idea, thats quite odd. Maybe you have to reach the pre-req's before stealing.

When I play as a minor faction with a 1-slot region, I make sure to invade some obscure 4- or 5-slot settlement in India or the Americas to feed my lust for technology.

I think I am going to have to do that.

The other odd thing I noticed is that the colonial factions, New Spain, 13 Colonies etc. seem to remain independent, is that a side effect of unlocking the minors or just coincidence?

It depends. If you're using a downloaded mod, I'll let you know that some mods prevent the colonies from uniting with their mother countries. Others don't.

I think, it would be great if CA allowed us to play as minor factions in the MP campaign...

Yeah, using minor factions is almost too difficult. I means you have to blitz your unprepared neighbors with what did you have at the start. Sometimes this was good thing, but sometimes it was almost certain suicide.

In Total War, there is nothing Difficult, It is Total War...
