Thread: Too much gold

    Default Too much gold

I'm making something like 60k/turn and have 3 million+ total as the Romans circa 225BC. I've conquered the Italian peninsula[excluding Sicily] and Gaul. Is this normal?

Mh, in my carthage-campaign I also had already over 1.2 million mnai. My great campaigns against the Ptolemaioi and the war against the Koinon Hellenon let this amount shrink to 200'000 mnai. So it's no problem to waste lots of money ;-)

When I am rich faction, in my case Rome, I always keep fleets around to keep pirates and enemies in check, largely for RP reasons.

Also, I save up for a campaign, build a huge army, then fight the campaign with econ in negative till I succeed in taking my objectives.

But fleets- and huge ports- are not cheap at all.

Always keep full stack of good unit composition inside your border garrison, and keep two full stacks as your campaigning general's army, that would reduce your money a lot.

Germans, Spanish and Ptolemy will take care of that good ol surplus once you get to them. I'd say build as much infrastructure as possible and shore up your forts on hot borders until then.

The Spanish, Carthaginians, Epirotes and Greeks[who got Messina] have all decided to attack me. I'm still maintaining my hoards of gold at this point; but I can certainly see my self gobbling part of it up soon. Luckily the Swebow have left me alone for now.

And kill all pirates on the map. That's what I like to do. Alternatively, you could just bribe each and everyone, and probably give some aid to far-off allies (e.g. bribe their enemies).

Only on their own turf, ie in woods. Otherwise, endless stacks of Luso (where do they get them from?) or AS is much worse.

But as I and others hav said, maintain a navy. As Rome I usually have three- four main fleets composed of one-two of the biggest Romans can build and 2-4 covered Liburnians. An Eastern and Western Fleet and a Central Fleet for reinforcement, and when the time is ripe, an Atlantic one as well. Then a few Covered or open Liburnians to ferry troops around. Even when your enemies are vanguished on the seas, pirates should still provide enough for them to do, and blockades.
