Max XP bug?

Hi.

Something pretty weird just happened in my game, and i think it qualifies as a bug of some sort:

My general's bodyguard had max xp (3 gold chevrons) and, after a battle in which it did fairly well(7 losses almost 200 kills), the unit's XP was back to 0.

My guess here is that it did well enough to gain another XP level, the computer tried to increase the xp count by 1, but since 9 is the max, it ended up back to 0.

I see. Don't know much about modding so I was hoping that maybe it could be fixed from the .txt files.
