allright, now that i've gotten my castles to work right for custom maps, i've been looking at some of the other features of the map editor.

one of the most annoying things to me about the new editor is this lapping water you see when you call up the editor. it would seem that this lapping water is the default water now and there doesnt seem to be a way to turn it off in the editor so that one can more precisely edit land heigths. however, i've recently found that if you make a river, in the normal prescribed manner, and load your map in a custom battle, the water does NOT lap upon the shores. this is good. i'm going to experiment some more with this to try and see just what the parameters of 'water' are now.

frankly, i wish they'd done this the other way around, make water NOT lap as the default in the editor and ONLY turn the lapping effect on when it's a coastline (ocean), or, allow us an option in the editor to use either lapping or no lapping.

i'd also like to see the heigth marker returned to the mouse cursor in the editor or at least have the heigth of a tile point indicated somewhere on the screen when you mouse over it while in heigth mode.

also, one note to the moderators here in the dungeon, if you'd like i would post the docs i made for the various versions of the editors and include updates if that thread could be made a sticky thread. i find it silly to keep posting these only to have them fall off the board again after a while. or perhaps they belong in the library. i'm not quite sure what the policy is going to be for reference docs like this, sticky or library or both, but, i'm willing to find and post these notes again if they can be saved.

and, for those making castle maps that didnt see my note in the bug reports thread, if you are making castle maps and then immediately playing or testing these maps in custom battles, you may have to reboot your game to get the destruction animations to work right in the new map. i dont know if this is true for all people and their machines, but that is the case on my computer with my settings. make your map, save it, quit the game, start the game, load custom and your map, and the castles shld display wall and tower destruction correctly.
