i cannot stand that show so much. its all about the eastern mysticism as someone said dumb mindless entertainment. the more mysterious a certain fighter is the better their chances of winning are.

    meaning: samurai beats EVERYTHING

    cannot stand the show.

Except a Spartan with a steel xiphos.
It is better to conquer yourself than to win a thousand battles. Then, the victory is yours. It cannot be taken from you, not by angels or by demons, heaven or hell.

Samuri vs Viking was pretty silly. In real life the Viking would kneel behind his shield when the Samuri used his bow, and he'd have to face the Viking's spear in close quarters, not just as a thrown weapon (typically Northmen carried 3-4 "spears" into battle, or had their servant carry them).

Knight vs Pirate was also silly, the Knight didn't have a crossbow.

Did you ever see ThegnThrand's videos on YouTube? He spends a lot of time (probably too much) describing things like what you say.

Does anyone else notice that in every episode, there has to be at least one completely ridiculous weapon? The spit of poison and the ball and chain from the Shaka/Wallace episode come readily to mind...

And don't even get me started on the fact that they spent a quarter of the show touting Alexander's unarmed combat abilities and then had him lose to Atilla the moment he lost his sword.

Alexander is an interesting one to do, because we aren't sure what size he was. He may have been as short as 4'10. Ball and Chain (Bishop's knocker) is an excellent weapon, but the choice of the Zulu team to use "spit of poisen" clearly screwed them. As I understand it the "teams" put foward the weapon set themselves.

So the Vikings could have used the Longbow, or Long Axe, instead of throwing thrusting spears and using the Great Axe. Also labelling the shield "special" was absurd. The throwing axe is much more a special weapon. That whole fight was a duff match up, because the Samauri is elite, and they pitted him against what was basically a Viking Carl. They also totally underplayed the dicipline of Viking warriors (men who fought in the shieldwall.)

    Sorry, rant over.

Well, as a history buff, I enjoy seeing rants of this nature.

Speaking of which, if it's not too off-topic, I'd like to ask if you know any good books on Viking culture and warfare. I've asked this question many times, and am usually told to go read Osprey, and since you're an EB member you likely have a better grasp of history than the average person, even if this particular topic isn't your focus.

Bernard Cornwells new series...... lol at least he uses a freaking shield wall.

    seriously though good books.

The katan wouldnt touch a vikings chainmail and leather byrnie, wool cloth..... etc.

watching this show just pisses me off so much.

its like bash western european fighters contest.

Edit: and the experts dont know **** i know more than those queers. The samurai experts were a martial artist and some queer american-japanese guy. like seriously he sounded like he would piss his breeches in a fight.

and phillips samurai were not really "elite". Popular misconception. on average a medival knight is more elite as in terms of numbers. Everyone in a japanese army was usually "samurai". even most ronin and wako were samurai.

Yeah, I noticed that the computer program they use (among other reasons) to determine the victor limits the reality of the fight.

I think they just use excel, with some formulas and randomness.

The whole thing is so absurd to me that it can't even be shallow entertainment.
