Default Help please: Wireless network + File sharing

    Helloooo.

I have a wired PC running XP, and I need to grab files off of that onto my remote desktop running Win7 (64-bit).
I've set up the wireless network for internet access without much hassle; both PCs can access the internet smoothly.

I just need some basic help setting up a wireless home network between the two PCs for file sharing.

I've never set up a network like this, so please excuse the ignorance.
Can anyone help me? Thanks guys.

I never tried a Win7 and XP connection. All I am guessing is access your pc from the network and use your user/pass for that pc to remotely access it.

Most of that is autoconfigured anyway. In Windows Explore simply go to Network/Network Devices or whatever it is called, and your XP computer should pop up under its host name. Then you can double click and get a log in prompt. Log in with your XP account and then it's just some remote share like any other network account.

Just to piggyback onto what others have said, I can't picture the network being the issue, but rather the configuration of the share and the intra-machine connection. You've set up shared folders/discs before, correct?

I have the same thing, but reversed. Windows 7 desktop, windows xp laptop.

Its as simple (from both) as making sure they are connected to the router, then putting the computer name in the address bar of the folder. That takes you to the shared area of the computer, to have files appear there, you just need to right click, (XP) sharing and security or W7, share with (read/write)

That or just access the hidden shares for each driver letter. (Start->Run: "\\'Computer's IP'\C$")

If you're just grabbing a few files, I find it's easier that way. If they're files you access regularly, it's worth making an actual share.
