Thread: CTD about every 2 hours of playing...

Default CTD about every 2 hours of playing...

No problems playing or saving... however after playing the game for about 2 hours it randomly CTD's... I typically restart the game and it's fine again for the next 2 hours until... bam!... CTD's again... It's a problem I can live with as it just forces me to restart the game... but I would like to know if there is a solution so as to get rid of the nuisance... Btw... I have RTW installed in the program files folder with Vista (if that matters) but I remember reading somewhere that that would only be a problem if my control settings were on and they are not... so I assume it is not that... Hope to hear from ya'll soon...

It may cause problems if you install EB under Program Files, if it works for you, fine.

RTW has a "memory-leak"-bug, that causes the game to crash. As EB maxes the RTW-core-engine out in every aspect, you may receive those CTD's. Quitting after 90min of playing should prevent that.

Otherwise you could switch to BI/ALX executables because the leak is not that hard there. Upgrading your RAM or increasing the pagefile may help too.

The addons Barbarian Invasion and Alexander for RTW. In the minimod-subforum you can find guides how to implement these.

RTW is a 32bit executable and handicapped by windows itself so it never will use more than 2GB of RAM. So if you have 4GB you are fine, increasing the pagefile will help nothing here.

I've been having almost the exact the same CTD issue, using the BI exe, even playing on two different machines. one is vista 32x with 3g RAM, the other is vista 64x with 8g of RAM.

In my experience, using BI decreases the chance of getting these CTD's. ALEX makes it more stable (for me), after >200 hours of playing nearly zero CTD's due to memory leak. As I got not the time to play 4+ hours at one time, I quit mostly after 2 or 3 hours of playing.
