Well, I finished the first game but in Clear Sky I always joined freedom and never made it into the Duty base , got hung up and gave up on the game (I think twice or so), would this be a game for me then? Does it offer any new weapons or just the same old ones?

If you liked the first game, you should try this one. If you didn't, you shouldn't. As far as I can tell, all the weapons in the third game were in the first game. However, using them is a very different experience because of the upgrade system. I doubt you'd have problems with variety in available weaponry.
