Thread: Just some Questions. =)

    Default Just some Questions. =)

I only have a simple question: How hard is this game, on Easiest difficulty. I'm rather good at games like Age of Empires III, but Games like Ksirk (Basically Risk) and Warzone 2100 totally pound me into the ground, Although I enjoy them. I don't really want to spend the money on this game if it's just going to be basically impossible for me to win.

Even being a first timer you won't find this game all too hard - M2TW and well all of the other variants of the Total War series have never been impossible to play on harder settings. That is of course if you are not downloading and playing a mod first time out which can add extra challenge to the game - I would not recomend to beginners.

I'd suggest playing it on Medium (Campaign) / Medium (Battles) to build you skills and then amp it up a bit to either Hard/Hard or VH/VH.

You won't be sorry for the purchase put it that way! All the best, look forward to hearing from you more around here (oh and welcome to the .org).

Welcome to the org Barker the magnificent, enjoy your stay

The particular game (M2) is easy to just play and just win. However TW is a different species than the games you mention.

To play well and enjoy TW, ie to really know what you are doing, why you are winning in battles and the campaign and why you are losing, is rather hard. The game engine is complex, and there are many strategic and tactical layers in the game, despite having huge allowances for the benefit of new players past RTW and M2TW. Generally the older a TW, the more challenging it is, but already from M(1)TW you need some modification to enjoy a challenging game. Shogun is generally the most demanding in terms of sheer challenge.

M2TW is quite easy, and Kingdoms is even easier to "beat". However they have layers upon layers of gameplay, that although not optimised can be quite fun if you forget about win and loss and play the game in order to enjoy the immersion, the atmosphere, the battles, the characters etc live through an alternative historical path.

In that sense TW is one of the best franchises around and you may find that M2TW can be quite fun too.

Spot on. Personally, I think playing a campaign "to win" is just stupid. If you were the king of Tonga in today's world, for example, you wouldn't rule for the sake of "winning" or conquering the world.

Planting the Tongan flag across the globe wouldn't "win" the game of life, eh? If a victory message pops up when our Queen is dead and the White House is burning, I'll go jump off a roof into a snowbank or something...

Don't worry, he only has to get 45 provinces plus Jerusulam so with Africa and the Middle East he should be fine....unless the Timurids are also lurking somewhere in the Sahara ;)
