Thread: Rome Shell

    Default Rome Shell

I'm having an odd issue with the Rome Shell. As I mentioned in another thread, I'm playing a Romani campaign on two different machines, both with vista. On the 32x system, the shell is working fine, but on the 64x machine, it doesn't work at all. Was there ever a definitive answer for this problem? I tried searching the two sites but couldn't come up with an answer. With the frequent CTD's I've been having, I'd like to able to auto-win certain battles I've already won that crashed without having to replay them.

    1. Stay at least 20 seconds in the battle after the victory screen appears before returning to campaign map, this should minimize the end-battle-CTD.

    2. Could you check this hint:

The reason that has been figured out is that RomeShell interferes with some infrared devices (e.g. Microsoft infrared receiver in Vista, some remote keybords, etc.). If you experience such problem with Rome console, you should go to device manager and disable the infrared receiver. It worked for me and it had cost me a lot of time to figure out where the problem is.

    Thanks for the reply, XSamatan.

    1. I always wait until the music finishes, but it doesn't seem to help. My best bet might be to close the game and restart often.

    2. I found the answer to the shell problem:

first, you go to the "data" folder in both the RTW and bi folders.

now go to the folder "text".

use a standard text editor (like notepad/word etc.) to open "descr_shortcuts"

go down until u see "misc." (at the start of the line)

there should be a line with "show_console" here, and it says "hidden" behind it.
remove "hidden" and save the file.

start Rome: Total War, go to controls > misc and press reset to default
there should now be a line "show debug console" . set to whatever key you want.
