Augustan Reforms Question

Not long after getting the Marians, I spotted a message in the massive seasonal list of faction announcements, that one of my FMs had "High Ambitions". I checked what this was, and found he was prime for Augustus (was even overqualified)..So I made him faction heir, and only two seasons later:-

Now just more provinces to get and 22 years to wait......

So here's several pertinent questions on the matter:-

1) When I check the number of provinces I have, the map/advisor screen says I hold more than I actually do. It's counting the provinces of my protectorate too. So does the script read this same number (very important to know as it will dictate strategy).

2) I need to get to 125 BC to be Augustan Reform Eligable. My Augustus will be 66 years old that year, so it's going to be touch and go. If he dies before then, is that it, no possibility of Augustan Reforms for that particular game?

3) Will the reforms happen anyway, once I reach 125BC, now I've had an "Augustus" (will his son become an Augustus for example?)

Tricky questions, but I hope someone has the answers ;)

1-Im pretty sure it only counts the provinces you actually own.
2-If your Augustus dies before 125, you will have to wait on another FM with the high ambitions trait and make him your faction heir. When he takes over you should get the reforms. Good luck!

I think this is a legitimate reason for reloading if he dies before you get the reforms.

It's now 142BC, Augustus is residing in Rome. He's got "hale and hearty" trait, so I'm hoping he'll manage to live to at least 66...

Kyrene has been annexed, Legions II, III and IV are in that vicinity (with at least 7 full yellow death stacks close by), slowly pushing Eastward. Pontus has become a minor power, and is making threatening noises around Byzantion. Legio Illyria has been recruited, Legio Thrakia has a "men wanted" poster on the wall.

Live long and prosper Augustus, but mostly just live long ;)

Be advised my Augustan Reforms kicked in at 142 B.C., just 20 years or so after I had the Marian Reforms, so you might not have to wait much longer if you have the other priorities met.

and they are "green" if you were not playing as rome I'd say those are some expensive gerrison troops^^

LOL...Good points. Thing is, they have been sitting in the fort to the east for around 100 game years (as part of a deterrent to The Getai - we have shared a peaceful border for most of 100 years). They were originally part of a full balanced Camillan Army, which gradually got depleted fighting brigands, when it became irreplaceable. At one point, I had a full early "legion" in Segestica, and another in that Fort, when the Getai were becoming a mite menacing....They marched a full stack and another half stack in the direction of Segestica, saw two good full stacks sitting there and walked away. They never came back.. :) You need to look big to play slowly and peacefully with no FD.

So it worked ;)

I always garrsion border towns/forts with decent armies, everywhere else gets the cheapest guys possible. And I do have over 15 million mnai as well....

There's your sort of answer, part also is the sheer effort of micromanaging a massive empire, and the logistics of replacing outdated troops as the Romani.

Please disband them immediately; I mean, these guys deserves a rest after 100 years of service. (who wouldn't?)
Let them go back to their families, there, they'll meet their great grandchildren, kiss them and they'll go back to their wifes in the family crypt.


Good point about flexing your muscles to keep the Getai at bay though.
