Thread: Single Player Campaign and historical battles not showing up

Default Single Player Campaign and historical battles not showing up

First of all, I'm going to say that conditions of this issue are somewhat less than normal. I have attempted to install the mod on my macbook for the recently released port of Rome. I have tried other mods, and they all work fine. Given that .exe is unsupported by OS X, I simply copied the EB mod folder from the root rome total war folder to a flash drive, and then put it in the proper spot in the Macbook.

I can successfully start the mod with the command "-mod:EB -nm -show_err" and the proper menu, sounds, and all that show up, but there are two small problems.

When I click on single player, the option for Campaign doesn't even show up, it's just not there. All that appears is "Custom Battle" and "Historical Battle." I have tried to do a historical battle to see if everything worked ok, and not a single battle appeared in the battle list. I have played with custom battles though, and everything works fine. All the factions and their units show up just like it would on windows, and the battles run seamlessly.

I can only assume the reason is that there are some files that are installed outside of the "EB" folder during installation, and/or certain tweaks are made to existing files during the installation through the installer. Does anywone know what files outside the EB folder or commands I need to run to make it work?

Thanks in advance. I appreciate any help that is given.

    Welcome to the forum!

Can you elaborate "the option for Campaign doesn't even show up, it's just not there."? Is it really not there or just grayed out?
The installer put files outside the EB older that are not direly needed to play EB, like the Trivial Script, Recruitment viewer, Documentation and some shortcuts.
I have at my PC an EB folder that I just move inside a new RTW build, and that works without problems, no idea why that shouldn't work on a Mac.

What you can do at first, is to search manually for the files needed for the campaign and the historical battles.
Search in \EB\Data\world\maps\campaign for a folder "imperial_campaign" and the folder "battle".

Well from what I have seen, there seems two be two 'modes' for EB. A single player 'mode' and a multiplayer 'mode.' In the singleplayer mode, if you try custom battles/multiplayer factions dont' get the right rosters. In mutliplayer mode, there is no option for campaign under singleplayer(it's not there, period.) and factions have the right rosters. The installer places several .exes to swtich between them, which naturally wouldn't work on OS X.

From what I can tell, it seems that when I put EB on my macbook, it was in multiplayer mode, and without the .exe, I wouldn't know how to manually change that. The campaign option actually didn't appear at all, it wasn't greyed out, it jsut wasn't there period. After clicking on "Single Player" from the main menu, there were two options; custom battle and historical battles.

Anyway, I did manage to get it working. I took the installer on my desktop and had it install into an empty dummy folder, then I copied that over to my macbook via flashdrive, and it worked like a charm. It would be great if there was an EB .rar that had all the files necessary for manual installation, given that some people may not even have access to Windows.

Thanks for the advice though, I appreciate it. It took about a month of hunting around to finally work out exactly how to get this working, but for EB, it's worth it.

Right, the "Trivial Script" gives the player an option to choose between both modes. All it does is to replace the singleplayer edu with the multiplayer edu and vice versa.

Great! I'll note that for further problems with macs!
There was no need to upload a simply rar/zipped file of EB as the installer gives much more comfort and further options under Windows.

Tried that. It didn't work. And, dragging the EB data folder into the Rome TW folder in OS X gave me a different result from yours: I get the standard historical battles & campaign, but the EB factions for custom battles. Any chance you could post more details or perhaps a listing of your directory so that I can compare?

Well, as it turned out I never did get EB working on the mac version of the game. I thought I had because the menu showed up, and everything as it was supposed to, and I was even able to do custom battles. However, when I tried to start a campaign, I was able to select a faction, but the game would always crash upon starting the campaign. Frankly I have no idea what's up. I am guessing it has something to do with something that gets installed outside of the EB folder, and it could only be remedied through a EB.dmg

The error you are describing I was running into at first. When I copied my EB stuff from my windows installation over, I just got the vanilla rome campaign, but when I created a dummy folder to install EB in on windows, then transferred that to OS X. It worked, I'm not exactly sure what was different about it. You also must make sure you are actually launching the Rome: total war.dmg and not the Barbarian invasion one, and also make sure you you are starting it with the command "-mod:EB -show_err"

I ended up just giving up and decided to keep my windows partition just for EB. Though I'd be great if they came out with a .dmg installer, as EB is the only real reason I have for keeping windows installed.

It's really quite puzzling as the only parts of the game that were changed were the parts strictly necessary to make it run on OS X. I can verify that the actual game files related to units, buildings, campaigns, and that sort of thing are 100% identical to the windows version.
