    Default Pleae help

Whenever I try and launch Medieval: Total war, I get the following error message:

    "COLUMN_building_unit_capacity

Too few data columns found in parsefile"

Any ideas what's causing this? I'm guessing something's wrong with either the crusader_build_prod13.txt file or the crusaders_unit_prod11.txt file...

Back in the day, I used to play around with the .txt files quite a lot... editing stats, starting positions, etc. I logically assumed that was what was causing the issue, so I uninstalled and reinstalled the game. To my surprise, i'm still getting the same error.

Any suggestions on how to fix this would be much appreciated.

Did you by any chance use the gnome editor to mess around with those 2 files without backing them up beforehand? I had the same problem and the only way I found was to delete every trace of MTW from my system and do a clean re-install..

Yes a syntax error in the build prod file is the issue. Unless you feel like spending hours debugging the file, then I'd advise you to reinstall.

Be aware that the gnome editor is bugged and often does corrupt the file by adding some repeated fragments to the end.

Already tried reinstalling. At least 3 times now. Even tried uninstalling it first, deleting the total war folder, and installing completely from scratch. Can only assume it was something wrong with one of the CDs.

Anyway - having given up, I bought a new copy of the game today, through metaboli. When I try and run this new copy, it doesn't load. It just goes to a black screen and I have to enter task manager to end task. What could be causing this? (using Vista + directx 10)
