How far over the limit were you, and on what sort of road? I expect you were just given a ticking off.

You get a letter from the speed cameras - if you get stopped by the police, I think they have to issue you the fine and advise you of any points there and then, so you should be OK. I'm guessing it was the end of their shift and they wanted to avoid the paper work - either that or you're a very good looking blonde girl with come hither eyes.
