If it works like MTW, then missle fire causes a temporary morale penalty. The archers only have to kill one guy for that to happen. If one of your units morale dipped too low because of losing just one guy to missle fire, it might rout. If it was a samurai unit, then its rout would demoralize all of your nearby units, and might make them dip below the rout cut off point. The whole army routing past your diayamo might tip his morale too low. Its like knocking down a domino (diayamo) and making the whole row of dominoes fall. If the enemy have only a single archer left and some other troops to protect him, then that lone marksman might get really lucky and "chain rout" a small army! Its not too realistic, but you know how computers are. They apply the rules whether it makes sense in a given situation or not.

Of course the enemy archers may have killed a bunch of guys at the same time. I illustrated with a "just one" example to show how unexpectly vulnerable your army can be, if you get really unlucky.

In those simple times there was a great wonder and mystery in life. Man walked in fear and solemnity, with Heaven very close above his head, and Hell below his very feet. God's visible hand was everywhere, in the rainbow and the comet, in the thunder and the wind. The Devil too raged openly upon the earth; he skulked behind the hedge-rows in the gloaming; he laughed loudly in the night-time; he clawed the dying sinner, pounced on the unbaptized babe, and twisted the limbs of the epileptic. A foul fiend slunk ever by a man's side and whispered villainies in his ear, while above him there hovered an angel of grace . . .
