    Default weight loss question

in the past two months ive been trying hard to lose the excess weight i have. ive been exercising at the very least a half hour every day, more when my schedule permits. i do a lot of cardio for my workouts, and some weightlifting when i have time. i have cut out all sweets and desserts, stick to one portion per meal, stock up on fruits and veggies, and have cut out sugary drinks from my diet.
but i dont seem to lose any of the weight. in fact, i gained a pound. i do feel stronger, and have definitely gained muscle, but i still look overweight.

    what am i doing wrong?

Probably eat less or exercise harder...not very helpful advice I know.

Perhaps it's simply a matter of body type. That one pound is probably of muscle, you simply haven't lost any fat.

    No ham, pepsi.
They make deli slices of frozen pepsi now? Awesome!
You also need to purchase a small freezer for storage of your pepsi.
It runs on batteries. You'll need a few.
Uhh, I guess I won't have pepsi then. Do you have change for a twenty?

Well exercise like weightlifting means more muscle, muscle is good, but if you specifcally just want to lose weight you probably won't doing that.

Not so much a matter of eating less, but the calories in the food you eat should be say a few hundred below the Daily recommended amount, also getting a balance of all nutrients and not an uneven distribution.

What are you eating in terms of meals?

It could be that you still have a high carbohydrate or fat intake.

Less Carbs (especially simple ones) = Weight Loss.

So when you have an intake of carbs, make sure it is the complex kind.

Also, increase your intake of fibre. Don't eat bread, as this is high in carbs, eat something like shredded wheat. This will get the food moving through you.

while i disapprove of anyone attempting to lose weight.......

dont just eat less that is poor advice. maintain a balanced diet and supplement it with high carb burning exercise. pm me if you want some good workouts.

It isn't poor advice. if you want to do a serious effort though, watch those "Biggest Loser" problems, hire a training instructor, and have 24/7 workout for 2-3 months, so you go from 400 pound to a muscular 200. Doing weights for example also does far more looks wise for the body then doing aerobatic exercises.

i am right now 190lbs, and im 5'11.

i dont really have normal meals cause im in high school. breakfast is a cup of that instant breakfast stuff. dont have time to eat a full meal. lunch is a PB&J sandwich on whole wheat bread, a fruit cup, a granola bar, and a bottle of water.
i know its not much but its all i have time to make.

dinner is whatever mom decides to make. but whatever it is i try to only have one serving of it.

You're around thirteen stone and 5ft11... that's not overweight as far as I am aware.

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day; if you don't have time, make time and get up half an hour earlier. I don't know what a cup of instant breakfast is, but it doesn't sound remotely healthy, so make sure you eat some bran or similar high-fibre breakfast cereals to help ease digestion for the remainder of the day.

For lunches... well peanut butter and jam aren't a healthy combination regardless of the bread you eat it on; potential filling replacements are dependent on what food you like and what you don't, really, but definitely stick with wholemeal bread. The fruit cup is fine, as I'm sure you know, as you really need to ensure you're hitting at least four of that five-a-day. Bottled water is excellent, I assume you refill that when the bottle is empty. The granola bar is a little iffy; some of those can contain large amounts of sugar (usually found in the syrups that hold the bar together), but there are some that are healthy.

For evening meals, perhaps arrange with your mother for there to be a night of the week where you eat a certain healthy option of your choice.

Losing weight doesn't mean you have to stop eating the food you like, you just have to learn to make sacrifices and eat healthily too.

As far as I know...muscle burns fat, lean protiens, drink lots of water, healthy carbs (anything brown) and burning too many calories (cardio) will burn muscle as well as fat. Muscle also weighs more than fat. That's about all I can relate.

im in highschoo and i keep to a pretty regulated calorie plan.

make time in th emorning like secura said i eat at least three eggs ham, sausage or bacon (lol not for you) and toast. or i have protein shakes and some cheerios if im really really rushed. i wil go late to school before i mess up my feeding time.

and for lunch make healthy BIG sandwiches, pasta, etc.

eat what your parents give you for dinner

Muscle also weighs more than fat.
please dont say anything like that . its a common thing to say but think about it. 1pound of muscle CANNOT weigh more than 1pound of fat. you mean muscle is more dense than fat.

better you hear it now instead of you being at a gym or something and say that. or god forbid you say it to strike lol.

    What exercise are you doing?

Sprints + weights = 24 hour increase in metabolism = burning calories well after the exercise ends = weight loss.

-Processed, probably filled with Sodium and simple carbs

-Get rid of the jam add a bannana

-Probably processed and packed in a sugary syurp.

What does your mom usually cook?

Also if your diet was high in Carbs before (like most Americans) then you'll be pretty insulin resistant.

I also need to see your work out

thats pretty much all i can spare in my schedule.

i heard that bannanas are the worst fruits you can have, is that true?

i started taking tuna w/ salad sandwhiches instead of PB&J.

is the fruit cup really so bad? what do you recommend instead?

my mom usually makes random things, no real pattern, but wednesday is pizza, which i avoid completely, and thursday is noodles, which i have one serving of with marinara sauce, no cheese.

When unripened (the skin is a vivid green), they contain high amounts of starch sure, but who eats 'em like that anyway? When ripe (yellow skin), the banana has converted the starch into sugar and it's as healthy as most fruit, really.

Tuna is an excellent source of protein, omega-3 and vitamin D, so good choice!

When I searched for this on Google, it just looked like chopped fruit, but often there's a juice in there that's laden with sugar as previously stated; simply eating an apple instead would be fine, I should think.

Hey, I like my Banana's fresh (yellow, with a tint of green at the edges). I really dislike brown bananas or what some people call "ripe".

When the skin goes that blackened bruise-looking colour and the banana's flesh is brown and somewhat mushy, that usually means the fruit has overripened; at that stage, the banana has turned largely into a sugar-laden mass and should be thrown away or at the very least the brown parts cut off.

Bananas are great as Beskar stated, largely yellow with just a slight amount of green in there; that's pretty much when the fruit's at it's best.

hooah if your serious you need to alter your diet and do more thna an hour of exercise. i run in the morning (i wake up very early) for like an hour and after school i lift weights.

noodles are good by the way. i eat alot of noodles but then agian im not trying to lose weight

Basically, if your a certain size, sizes being equal when your fat or muscular, the muscular frame will weigh more. I guess I didn't phrase myself well or came to believe to vehemently an old cliche...
meaning muscle is more dense. its just a thing that bothers me. i believed it and said it for a long time as well most people do.

theres a reason most nfl runningbacks sink to the bottom of the pool when they try to swim and its not because black people can't swim (another annoying stereotype)

You want to eat them at the end of that week, while there's still a little green in the skin. The banana's flesh should be fine by that point; not too soft and not too much of a bite to it.

I don't eat much fruit anyway, it just makes me more hungry.
You need to ensure you're eating five portions of fruit or vegetables a day; if you can't reach that five, which is harder than it sounds, then getting to four is fine.

I usually have one or two pieces of fruit per day (mostly bananas, pears, apples and oranges) and then make up the rest of the five-a-day by utilising vegetables in my evening cooking; anything from aubergines and courgettes to leeks and sweet potatoes... it all adds up. You can make some fantastic meals just using some basic ingredients (milk, eggs, herbs etc.) and some vegetables, the imagination and your taste are the only limits.

Coupled with two litres of water a day and some exercise each day and it fights off the pounds for those moments where I go nuts and eat Ben & Jerry's Phish Food or a pizza. xD

Phish Food is bad. I love Bohemian Raspberry, now that was an ice cream, but now they discontinued it, even though it was their number one flavour.

What does this entail exactly? How much do you run? How do you split it up? What kind of movements do you do?

I'll tell you right now if all you are doing is running 30 mins on a treadmill and then doing some BW you aint gonna get no where fast.

i heard that bannanas are the worst fruits you can have, is that true?
    Eat the bannana.

i started taking tuna w/ salad sandwhiches instead of PB&J.
Thats great, awesome. However I would reccomend getting most of your carbs in around breakfast time.

is the fruit cup really so bad? what do you recommend instead?
A peice of actual fruit. The fruit cup has been porcessed and the fruit has been sitting in that syurp, there are much better alternitives.

my mom usually makes random things, no real pattern, but wednesday is pizza, which i avoid completely, and thursday is noodles, which i have one serving of with marinara sauce, no cheese.
Is there a specific reason why you're avoiding the cheese? Your biggest enemy there is going to be all those carbs, which wouldnt be a problem if you were following a training regimine.

5'11 190 is not that heavy, so you're going to have to work at cutting the weight. I would get how you train in order and then I would get how you eat in order, Also remember these things dont happen overnight. 2 months really isnt that long.
