Ugh, I hated gym classes, and was so happy when I had no more required. Not for the sake of being fat either, as I was 5'10" and under 120 lbs.

I hated gym class too. Running circles, what good did it ever do to anyone?

Anyway something the article does not consider is the price of a tasteful meal. A flatscreen bought for $50/month costs less than a month of good food.

Regulation is fine, but adults have the right to eat whatever they want. As well as smoke cigarettes, drink or even use illigal drugs. This might finacially burdon the country (much like the expense of regulation will), but certain freedoms shouldn't be infringed upon. Regulation for children however, well that's a different matter. Education is far more effective, in my opinion, then taking away unhealthy foods. Some people do what they shouldn't just to experiment, or even to spite those who tell them not to. Especially the underaged.

And Mr.John Doe, after reading this article and deciding to change his life went out and bought 30 lean cuisines.

Just let insurance companies charge more for health insurance if you're, you know, unhealthy.

Oh, wait, everyone gets free health care in Britain, so why should they care?

And I guess the conservative support for traditional families had more value than some people thought.

I don't really care if people eat stupidly and get fat. But they should have to bear all the costs and consequences of their actions. Though gym classes in school couldn't hurt.

You don't have to force people to do anything. Just subsidize fruits and vegetables the way we subsidize corn.

Yeah, no. That works for car insurance, because driving is a choice. Being in poor health isn't (usually).

Because being unhealthy isn't much fun? You know that obesity is tightly linked to depression, right?

No it doesn't. "Traditional family" is a completely nebulous term and thinking of it as an unquestionably good thing is on the same level of primitveness as doing a crazy dance to call down rain.

The Government is one of the biggest disseminators of false information about nutrition.

People are fat because they are idoits and beilive anything the mass media force feeds them (lol that was pertinent) .

Now that the government will have to foot more of the bill for culinary pollution, it has a financial incentive to protect the health of actual people instead of the food corporations and their lobbies.

Governments ought to tax the polluter. As it is, the polluters get away, the polluted have to pay. This ought to be reversed. Tax the food that's unfit for human consumption, and use the money to pay the doctor bills of those that have been polluted.
