Well, should we begin by looking inside all the drawers, behind all the pictures, under the couch cushions, and all of that? Oh, and the paintings and art, definitely check them out.

I figure if anything's going to jump out and kill me from doing so I may as well get it out of the way early so I don't have to engage in a tiresome "to lynch or not to lynch" debate.

Ok, apparently we have a couple of lamps that can be turned on and/or taken with us; and a bunch of batteries (enough for multiple people, unspecified how many). I'll take some batteries. Can't imagine that turning on a lamp would help at this point but anyone who wants to, feel free.
