Angry Did those guys came directly from hell?

    Hello EBler,

I am quiet new to this forum, but not to EB. I am playing it since it's release - ok with large breaks between the campaigns. I just started a roman one some days ago and it went well until I did something I never did befor: I just looted a village, destroyed some buildings and let it riot.

I did this because my little army wasn't able to hold the town against a bigger army from epirote, which could have been very unlovely if it besieged the village. So I went for a better strategic position on a bridge.

The village rebelled and this is what was freed in a village of 400 ppl expelled by a Roman legion:

Just for the nosy ones of you some extra information:

A charge of the falxmen just brought evily pain over my soldiers. 21 attack and a charge of 10 with this defense just slaughtert my whole army! I had more than an expirienced halfstack of men destoyed by those freed terrorists - and lost the battle. -.-

Just thought about sharing this expirience with you and hoping for some hints how to beat those beasts without losing a whole army

    kind regards

Hehe sounds like youve been having fun, My advice in these frountline situations would be to have your best generals at hand. This way your army could have countered the advantage the AI had in this situation. Also, you need to make sure your army is composed of the correct infantry for this situation. I.e you will need A battle line of principies atleast 6, Supported by atleast 4 triarii along with archers and, enough cavalry to turn the tide in dire situations. Against oncoming full stack enemies, expecially when they are elite you need the best rome has to offer. In my view what i have just offered is the best to face the challenge. Good luck with your future campaign keep us updated :)

I would bring some good archers, slingers and/or skirmishers. Especially the Druxtiz Basterniska and the Apeleutheroi are weak against missiles. They may be deadly in melee but 3 armor upgrades don't help them much against some good mercenary cretans or balearic slingers.

Considering the garrison is fairly small, you could also probably just starve them out. Just get a stack that's at least a bit larger than a half-stack (so it's too big for the enemy army to want to attack), and starve them out. Hopefully, by the end, even though they will probably sally on the last turn (sometimes they don't, though), their numbers will be so low that defeating them will not be a problem.

Rahl's got a good point as well. Most of those troops have very little armor (the exceptions being the Hellenic troops of course), so missiles should do a number on them. 22 defense skill does nothing to stop missiles.

You think these guys are bad?

Try the regenerating bionic fullstacks in Luguow and Mrogbonna.

These guys are straight from the ninth circle.

    Hi guys,

I exactly did what Rahl said. I had two units of cretan archers in italy, so I shiped them over sea. They were annihilating.

Viewed from behind the arrow's shaft in the drawn bow they almost looked sweet. ;)

By the way. I wondered why it was so easy to conquer the african cities around carthago, so I decided to toggle the fog of war off. Dudes, Karthago is spamming fullstacks in Iberia, but had only one decent army in africa. There is no match in their african homeland. Too bad :( It looks like I need to conquer the barbarian north, but I dislike it. I'd like to mess up greek first. I think about rolling macedonia and epirote from behind.

One more strange thing: Koinon hellenion has two fullstacks on rhodos but they don't seem to be able to move them to the mainland. Is it possible to help them with it?

    Kidn regards

You think you had it bad, in a few days I'll finish updating my AAR with the double-gold chevron triple-armor triple-attack rebels that spawned with 48 elephants in their stack :(

Edit- btw, if you have BI installed and you use that exe or the alex.exe, Koinon Hellenon will generally manage to move its Rhodian armies on to a mainland somewhere - same with Carthage and the giant island stacks. But you still won't see a significant naval invasion. With EB on rtw.exe the best way to help out the KH is to just land an army on the island and kill them all. Shouldn't be hard, they're almost all akontistai and levy hoplites.

    Mmh...
Do like most VH VH players and cheat by using lots of archers. ;)
No many gold chevron a unit has, it still has the same defense against arrows.
Another possibility is to simply block them with phalanxes and than atack with cavallery in the back.

It spawned out of Kirtan (Numidia). I'm playing Mauretania, which you can see explained in the AAR, using Alex.exe. Elephants don't come until next update though.

    Yes.

    Move cursor over target location.
    open the console, type in:
    show_cursorstat -> coordinates x,y will appear
move_character "[Captain Whateverhisname]" x,y -> insta teleport. (Or instagib, if you try to teleport somebody out of a city. Which isn't such a good idea.)

Like other people suggested, use missile units for those rebels. The falxmen are especially prone to dying. slingers will do a better job, but archers are generally longer-ranged. You will have less success with the slaves, because they form in a horde formation, but still they will die with a satisfactory speed. I would actually advise you to ensiege them with an army that will make them sally out. This way you can concentrate on shooting at them as they come out of the gate and are in a dense pattern. and from multiple angles. Shoot them as much as you can before the first contact. I'm not sure I'd advise javelins, though, since they also have projectiles and better attacking ability with them, but then again," them got no shields, nor armor":D. Pin them from the front, then smash them from the rear with some hard chargers.

Thank you very much. Will try that soon, athanaric.
