Thread: Celtic armor

    Default Celtic armor

I was looking through the EDU the other day, and I noticed that Solduros have better armor then Germanic Bodyguards. What is the reasoning for this? As well, why do Praetorians have higher armor values then Solduros?

Just wondering because I do not completely understand how EB assigned armor values yet...

There is no one chainmail value. You've got differences in quality, extra layers, heavier chainmail and of course other equipment that plays it's part as well.

Okay, but do the Solduros still get that extra barbarian armor point?

Barbarian armour point? The Gauls were a far cry from barbarians, mah man. Among many other things, the highly-urbanised society was well-known for their chainmail.

Solduros have a metal helm, germans have a leather one. Praetorians have a metal helm and greaves. This would more of less explain armor differences.

    Again an armour discussion...^^
Ever asked yourself, why even naked guys in EB have armour? Looks to me like gamebalancing is the only reson for armour values.

Sure were. The Solduroi also have a caped doubler in EB1, the extra bit of mail that covers the soulders and the upper chest.

No that's not what he meant. The Solduroi get better armour points for their better chainmail, indeed due to the extra shoulder coverage and possibly some other things. The barbarian +1 point (which he referring to) is only for the barechested units.

Okay, so is the armor point supposed to represent warriors that could afford chain armor having an easier lifestyle then those that could not, or is the extra armor point for balancing purposes?

My very limited obviously not a team member understanding is that it is partly related to balance, and possibly also representative that individual soldiers in an irregular barbarian unit have likely picked up a few scraps of armor after battles. Both were offered up as explanations the others times this has come up (at least once from a team member, if I recall correctly, something I can't guarantee).
