It seems like way too much of a coincidence that we protected the person that the Japanese also decided to attack.

Perhaps it is just that- a coincidence. But I believe we need to take into a account the fact that the Japanese might have known Comrade Beskar was protected and so decided to attack him.

But even that doesn't make sense. Usually they like to make sure their targets will be killed, not the other way around.

I think there's a leak. I also think that the whole attack was designed to get us all confused and tangled in trying to find out who did it; in that case it has succeeded brilliantly with regards to me.

Although this is by no means the only way to go about this lynch, I believe we need to examine those who knew Beskar was to be protected. This means those involved in the protection, obviously, as well and our Great Leader GeneralHankerchief. If Comrade GH told his plans to the Officers that night as well, they too must be examined.

Following the Beefdom game I think we need to be extremely careful of both elected leaders and fake mafia attacks- both of these tactics were used effectively to create a crushing victory for the mafia in that game, and if they are shown to be successful they may be tried again...

I can clear some of this up. A few people knew about protection on Beskar last night. Aside from the group, the officer corps was aware of it (though khaan has not been active on our Quicktopic and I'm not sure he saw it in time). In addition, I was contacted by an independent group facilitator wanting to know who I was organizing groups on so there wouldn't be any overlap. I'm not sure if that person told his comrades or not. Therefore, I ask that person to come forward and contact me privately (or publicly, if you so wish) and tell me if you kept that information to yourself.

-edit- Hmm, Chaotix has more of a point than I originally thought. Also, I'm a bit surprised that only one Japanese attacked Beskar - wouldn't two be more effective?

Being honest, there is only three logical assumptions to make. GH was trying to bolster his innocence by doing the attack and protecting against it, some one in the know was attempting to bolster their innocent, some one tried to cause a split in the town.

I generally think GH is above that standard of lame WIFOM. So I am going to rule that out.

This means some one in the know (Officer or perhaps a defending group member) attacked me on purpose, by attacking me, and successfully defending, they are attempt to become "confirmed innocent" with super special speech marks. This is the most likely conclusion.

The third option is possible, but it wouldn't have caused a split anyway, if anything, if I ended up dying GH would be more thankful for it.

Beskar had no idea about his protection unless somebody tipped him off to it, which means we still have the problem of there being a mole.

As I am loath (at this early point in the game) to believe that somebody in the officer corps is feeding information to the rightists, I'm going to look outside them for the time being and point the finger at the only other person aside from Beskar's fellow protectors and the officers that I know for sure knew about this protection. Naturally, if there seem to be further leaks, then I'll seriously entertain the possibility that my officers need to be reevaluated.

I didn't know Beskar was going to be protected. I was inactive from 7 AM to 10 PM. I sent a PM to Subotan requesting protection for "whoever GH chose". GH's instructions and Subotan's response (he allowed it just this once) came afterwards.

Ok after a quick thought, it doesn't make sense.

I admit lying and all and I do feel sorry, but it was necessary.
While GH is the current leader, I had no reason to trust him.

And I didn't think he would trust me either.
But turns out he was honest to me. He told me that his group is protecting beskar, without raising any question what so ever.

As for why I asked, for one, I didn't want to waste the protection, two for the sake of talking to GH and three. I wanted to do something crazy.

I didn't expect GH to give me names. I wanted some suspicion on me so I don't get night attacked but I clearly over did it.

Anyway, Subotan never mentioned another special role. There are three known officers and one secret-role officer, and he didn't imply there would be any more like them. Besides, 4 special roles, a "Town Leader" type, and 2 Mafias is already pretty cluttered for a 40-player game. Oh, and let's not forget the Political Commissar's assistant! An extra, secret, secret role, especially with such a strange victory condition, is just pushing it.
