Default Ulsterman with bizarre accent wins US Open.

As a Northern Irish sports fan I rarely have moments to treasure so I just had to post something about Graeme McDowell's win at the US Open, the first European to win for 40 years.

Has he lived in America long? Is he trying to speak in a more US English for the occasion?

He sounds bizarre, like an American trying and failing at an Irish accent, or an off-Irishman trying to do American.

Must be cool to be a one-man variant of English!

He went to college in the states on a golf scolarship I think. I love the fact that one word is in an Ulster accent then the next is American.

This thread is evoking random memories for me...

This is the first time a Briton has won a major golf tournament since Paul Lawrie back in 1999, or something like that I gather. I remember watching while on holiday the day he won that tournamet... what?! It can't have been a decade ago, I feel so old...

My Gran used to make that a lot, mince and tatties was still the staple with her though.

If you can bet on it, it's a sport.
