World at War-Rise of the Third Reich

In the year of 1933 Adolf Hitler of the Nazi Party assumed complete control over the country of Germany. Earlier in the year he had gained emergency powers after the Reichstag fire, but in the March election, Adolf Hitler assumed Chancellorship, later he was voted into dictatorship by the Reichstag, there by ending the opportunity to go against anything he said. In 1939 Europe plunged into a second world war, Hitler had defied the order to pull out from Poland by the Allies and had started one of the bloodiest parts of history........

I'm back, after a few days of planning what to do with myself MOD wise now that Creative Assembly have begun to create Rome-Total War, and as you can pretty much tell I have decided to create a MOD about World War II, but inparticular, the rise of Adolf Hitler. Some people may say "Not ANOTHER World War II thing", but before they say that, this MOD will focus on more than World War II, let me explain. The MOD's first campaign is set in Weimar Germany where you can basically control several political parties in Germany at the time and your aim is to take over Germany, to make this even more sensible, Germany will be the only accessible landmass so you can't walk over to Norway or something, it'll be disabled. A reason I decided to do this is because of all the information about the period available to me, plus it will be very interesting for me to make this.

Ok well, I can pretty much confirm a few factions that'll be available to you in this MOD.

    Factions

    Campaign One-Weimar Germany

    The Nazi Party
    The Weimar Republic
    The Social Democrats
    The Communist Party

    Campaign ??-World at War

    Great Britain
    France
    Germany
    Soviet Union
    Italy

Keep in mind those are the confirmed factions for each era, there are still more to be added, but I'd better say this now......America and Japan will NOT be available *Shock, Horror*. The reason for this simply because I don't want to have make a giant map so I can fit both of those two countires on, I only plan to modernize the map a bit, not tamper with the lukmap. However, American and Japanese units will be available for use, American ones for the Allies etc. Anyway here's a little something I like to call Q&A.

    Questions and Answers

1-What kind of artillery will there be?

I don't know, if possible I will get some tanks in, of coarse we'll get the Flak Cannons and stuff in hopefully. It isn't fully decided yet as I need to talk to some people before I can give a definate answer.

2-What kind of special units can we look forward to?

Well, I can confirm for sure that there will be a Grenade Troopers, fully possible and obvious why (Naptha Throwers). I would like to get some SS Troopers or Stormtroopers in there, definately want to try and get a machine gunner in, certainly you cna expect Rifle Men. Obviously I will not be adding planes because I'd have to make them have a continuous motion to look normal, otherwise they'd just stop and hover above a bit of land where you told them to go and they'd look really wierd. Ships will be added, also the infamous U-Boat will be too.

3-Will the leaders of the factions actually be the real leaders?

Yes, absolutely. For example, leading us Brits will be Winston Chruchill, the Germans will have Adolf Hitler leading them, Soviets shall have Stalin, you get the picture.

4-What kind of historical battles/campaign will there be?

Well, I can confirm now that the D-Day Landings will be a available battle, campaigns like Hitlers Assault on Russia will be there, probably one depciting how the Allies fought back against Hitler with battles from places like the Ardennes Forest (I think that is what it is called). I will make them quite regulary after release so there will be packs with them in.

5-What kind of agent types will there be?

Well, for the Nazi there should be a Block Warden for their spy and so on, basically agents that are accurate to that "religion".

6-Speaking of religions, what's going on with them.

Basically they'll be changed to Allied, Axis and Nazi and the percentage will depict the support for each alligment. Obviously Nazi will be Germany only.

That's all I can think of for now, anyways, if you have ANY questions that are RELEVENT then please reply to this post with them.

    Thumbs up

Sounds cool man, but be warned we's talking about a major amount of work. I'm wondering how you plan to make the tanks. they should be mobile and as far as I know you can't move the models, just the sprites.

Anyway will look forward to this, GL man

yeah im wondering how ur gonna simulate ww2 given that men didnt move about in groups of 60 they where individuals when it came to combat.

    gl all the same though.

PS. britian is not just england.
realy gettin pissed of with that. the english conqueres wales ireland scotland etc. and used the scottish welsh irish as cannon fodder mutch like the do with gurkers today so in reality it was scotland ireland an wales that made the brittish empire.

Thank you both. Yes bothy of those things have entered my mind and I will try my hardest to make sure it looks right, as for the men in groups subject, I will more than likely end up suggesting loose formations to make them look more indivudal rather than organised groups, as you are right, it was basically everyman for himself rather than large formations marching in, still seeing the images of those organised Stormtroopers marching along the streets of Berlin still gives me the chills.

Yes, I should have written it down as Great Britain instead of just England as I agree with you mostly in your statement, though I disagree with you comments on other parts of Britain making the empire but that is not something to be dicsussed here. I will rememedy that.

As for tanks they'll more than liklely be in groups of about two max and will be slow but powerful, they will have to be another form of Naptha Throwers so that when they fire they will hit a group with an explosion, they will however have to be projectile units, not too bad as Tanks wouldn't suddenly go into h2h combat because it'd look dumb, I will try to make it so that if they have to get into h2h they simply have a little man with a gun on the top shooting at the men around them.

As for uniuts images most will be imported from the game Sudden Strike as they have pretty much the same movement pattern as the MTW units, I may however need to ask for Lord Krazy's help on that aspect if I find it too difficult myself.

But anyway, have any of you got any countries you'd like to see as playable?

    Scotty,

The Gurkhas are NOT 'cannon fodder' for the British Army but rather elite light infantry that have earned the distinction of being classified as Guards. As light infantry, and Guards, the Brigade of Gurkhas also possess other qualities that are not represented in another other regiment of the British Army. Principally, their natural ability to also operate effectively in a Mountain Warfare role.

The unique position of the Gurkhas in the British Army is both well known, and immensely respected, by servicemen and ex-servicemen alike.

Also, it may not have escaped your notice that the Gurkha regiments in the British Army have a VERY close relationship with Scottish Regiments in the BA. All Gurkha regiments in the BA adopted bagpipes (the Scottish type) as their instrument of choice. Hav'nt you ever wondered why? Even today, after all the cutbacks in the BA, you'll often find small units of Gurkhas training in the Scottish Highlands alongside Scottish servicemen.

To be refered to as 'cannon fodder' would upset them. To be addressed so by a Scot would upset them immensely

Elite light infantry, Guards, Mountain troops - YES. Cannon fodder ... er ... NO

Still, I expect you intended no offense ... so I'll forgive you

(BTW: It also used to piss me off when people addressed me as English rather than British, but if you choose to live anywhere outside the UK - you'd better get used to it&#33

    LK,

Much as I hate contridicting you (you being a moderator of this forum and all I just HAVE to correct you

Being "British" defines anyones nationality as being a citizen of "Great Britain". Great Britain IS a country (Ok, there is also the United Kingdom - albeit slightly different). Great Britain is comprised of 4 relatively different but VERY CLOSELY ASSOCIATED countries. Forget the "Great" if you choose - that's merely history. What IS important is the "Britain" (or British).

I know this is sometimes a difficult concept for other nationalities to grasp - having lived in The Netherlands so long I understand that. However ...

I AM BRITISH - which associates MYSELF with the countries of England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales. These four countries together comprise a joint entity (and nationality) which I choose to accept as MY principal nationality and that the vast majority of other BRITISH citizens are also content with.

Regardless of politics, my being British defines MY NATIONALITY as I wish it to be defined - NOT as others would choose to see it

Whether you consider yourself to be a citizen of Northern Ireland or Eire is totally irrelevant to the concept (or fact) that being British MEANS being British - regardless of how any individual chooses to disregard it. Any such disregard is blatently contrary to both the current Political/National boundaries, irrespectful of the wishes of the majority, and inflamatory to such individuals (as I) who will not tolerate anyone derising their nationality - as would any other like minded individual who is proud of their heritage/history and is not ashamed to be associated with their country.

I suspect most of the partipants in this forum (British, German, Dutch, American, Australian, etc) to be proud of both their nationality and county. I am no different.

LK - Calling MY country a "none entity" is akin to showing a red rag to a bull (regardless of your own political considerations)

actualy i know exactly what im talking about when i say gurkers where cannon fodder since my dad was in the R.E.M.E.
and was stationed besides the gurkers training grounds.

they get sent up the mountain when the guys at the top dont want to loose there own men.

PS. i meant that although many english fought and died there was still a larger number of scotts/welsh/irish fighting for "britian" as sutch i hate it when ppl refer to britian as england.

If u want proof i suggest u visit any scottish highlanders regimental barracks and have a look at the trophies/awards section, the english sent the highlanders into all the dodjy situations as one can plainly see by comparing scottish trophies to the english ones.

luckily enough for the scotts were just that good so we survived.

oh and also theres a memorial in almost every scottish city/town/village commerating those that died fighting for the brittish throne.

whereass im betting there aint half as many in the whole of england.

i aint got anything against the english but i do hate it when ppl think there the top when it was others who got them there

dont take offense its the truth go to a library and read a few books and ull see how many died for "britian" who where in actual fact not english.

I don't mean to criticize you or rain on your parade and if you want to do it, by all means go ahead, but as far as a 3-D WWII tactical game featuring small unit combat, this has already been done professionally by Bigtime Software with Combat Mission:Beyond Normandy better than anything you could mod MTW into being. The considerations for modeling such combat accurately are well beyond what I think the MTW engine was designed to handle: armor piercing statistics for different tanks, various anti-tank guns' accuracy and velocity models at different ranges, various infantry units' firepower at differing ranges, artillery of different calibers' blast range and impact on unit cohesion, the probability of mechanical breakdowns for different vehicles in various types of terrain, artillery observers for indirect fire, hundreds of different unit and vehicle types, hundreds of different factors, etc, etc, etc.) If you have played that game you know that there is a veritable laundry list of variables for accurately modeling modern combat, none of which the MTW game engine has been designed to deal with. If you want WWII small unit combat, that's the game IMHO. The even came out with the eastern front version last year as well.
Yours was not at first a criminal nature. At 10 you stole sugar,at 15 you stole money,at 25 you committed arson. At 30,hardened in crime, you became an editor. Worse yet is in store for you. You will be sent to Congress, then to the penitentiary. But,all will be well. You will be hanged.

    Hi Welly,
I'v an argument as long as one of your guides:D
The Welsh, Scots, English, and the Scots that live
in Ireland maybe British but the Irish people
nor the Island they live in are british.
The term the british isles a frase made up by the British
for obvious political reasons,it is not accurate, and is
a good example how insensative the British people
    can be

Another point, people in NI as in Britian are not Citizens
they are subjects.Unless they choose to have an Irish passport in which case they can be citizens, of Ireland.
That's how one day the British government can abandon
them as they have so many others in the past
and the people won't even have a say
You must not forget you come from a monarchy which does not afford you rights under a constatution.
The only writen constitution in Britain
is simply there to stop a Catoilic
    from taking the throne.
The rest is delt with by laws not rights.
So the only thing you can be a citizen of is Europe.

You will also find the correct term for your country
is "The United Kingdom of Great Britain
    and Northern Ireland"

You have been away too long

    No accounting for taste

Btw what do you associate with NI
    I associate it with oppresion,
    descrimination and things
the English would say are "just not cricket"
If you know the history of NI you will understand this.
These are facts not of my making.
and nothing to be proud of IMO.

It is also accepted that in days of old that the English ruling classes thought they were better than
everyone else, so it only stands to reason that they would send in the lesser mortals first. The thick irish the mean scott the welsh git all expressions that came from
the English, showing what high opinions
    they had for their "countrymen".

If you check the records in NI for recruitment in WW2
in the light of the WW1
you will find even the loyal sons of ulster were less
willing to fight for king and country after they
were lead to the slaughter in the somme and else were.

As for the south the reward they got for fighting with Britian in WW1 was the Black and Tans.
Gee thanks They basicly sent every scumbag in the army that they did not want to return to Britain
gave them guns and amunition and some officers
and let them loose on the country.
They murdered raped and burned like the yobs they were
and nobody in england realy cared. This was after
Britain had faught a war to free small countries
    .
You see how this can distort ones view of nationhood
    and thrust
The great British General who carved out India
    and Defeted Napoleon at Waterloo,
Wellinton was Irish you know.(Not our Welly)
    He was frightfully ashamed
of it.He knew what it meant to the English to be Irish.
He once said something like, "just because you
are born in a stable does not mean you are a horse"

This is true I'v seen dogs been born in stables

At the end of the day I'm willing to call people
what they wished to be called.I also agree you can not
make people something they are not and nor do I wish to.
I am very happy that the crazy bowler hated population
of Ireland is British it saves me a lot of embarresment
I find it even Stranger that a liberal minded person
such as Our Welly can associate with them let alone understand them.I have yet to meet an English person
in the flesh that does and I'v lived here for over 10 years.
Welly don't try wrangle out of this saying you never mentioned the men in the bowler hats. You can't mention NI
and not mention the secrative sectarian masonic lodges
that created it and still run it today

I think KY (unfortunate innitials)is not far wrong
when he points out how many battles the brave scotts
have gone over the top first.
Their losses are not in proportion neither
to the best of my knowledge.

Ok i'll post the second part later

Nagg don't forget to make Ireland neutral

Well, I'm going to play around a bit, see how had it is to get all the units to work in the game, if it proves too hard I will look into creating something that has more chance of been completed.

4-5 monthes is a rough guess, however if I can't get it to work I dunno how long the new project will take, hopefully less time because I'll make sure it's possible before announcing it lol
