I haven't eaten at an arby's in years. There are none around here. I prefer ethnic food anyway.

Ugh. I haven't been able to eat at Arby's since last summer, when my mom and I were on our way from Colorado (where my sister had just graduated) back home to Minnesota. I'll spare you fellas with the gory details, but suffice it to say that the large roast beef & cheddar I had....wasn't very good.

Spoiled/undercooked meat? Bad cheese? Combination of the two?

lol, if you saw the procedures for making the food, I think that you would sue. :P Top that off with the fact that I am working with a bunch of pigs who literally pick roast beef off the floor when the drop it, brush it off, and put it on a sandwich. They also switch the expiration labels on the food so that they do not have to throw it away. Some times we are putting lettuce that is three days past its expiration date on sandwiches. The edges of it are brown and shriveled, but they don't seem to care. :P I never thought that I could be so disgusted by people...

Funny - last time I was in the US I frequently saw a commercial for Arby's on TV which already gave me the impression that this would be even worse than other fastfood chains (somehow it looked like they focus on greasy and somewhat revolting looking food).
Apparently that impression wasn't too far off...

That's typical fast food restaurant practice. Hygiene is low on the agenda.

Go find a Jimmy John's. You can SEE all the food they use, it's fresh. I also knew someone who used to work there, they keep them clean and I've walked in late several many many times over the years and watched them clean everything. Jimmy has probably bought a few new yachts off of all the money I've spent at his places over the years.

lol, never seen one around here. Anyway the only fast food place worth eating at next to my campus is Hardees.

A term that I find very annoying that Americans use to mean traditional food of other cultures.

I'm honestly not sure. For all I know, my tastes have simply changed -- prior to the one I had last summer, I think it had been a good 9-10 years since I'd previously had a roast beef & cheddar.

All I know for certain is that the sandwich literally tasted like vomit. Gah.

Ah yes, the good old "five second rule".

Now *that* is definitely nasty. Using food that far past the expiration date (especially any kind of meat or fresh produce) is just so wrong on so many levels.

Pity. You'd probably like Jimmy Johns. Aside from their always using fresh ingredients, their sandwiches are actually pretty tasty (and they don't take long to make).

I will admit that of all fast food joints in the world, Hardees remains far & away my favorite. It's a definite guilty pleasure for me.

It is not just the average floor either, it is covered in little pieces of beef hours old and is so greasy that you can skate around on it with your shoes. :P

Yeah, and she has even done it with the mayo and other sauces. It makes me feel guilty to work there. :P Have they ever heard of salmonella I wonder?

Actually, come to think of it, there may be one close to campus by the Korean place. I will have to check when I go back to school next semester.

Nothing beats an original Thickburger with Poweraid and curly fries. :P I gotta admit, I like Subway as well, but it is waaay to expensive for me.

Isn't that even beyond "nasty", i.e. illegal?

I think so. Every night she has us put new stickers on the expired food in case a health inspector stops in. Also, if a container of veggies has expired and there is only a little left, they will just dump what is left of the old one into a new one. We are also supposed to wear gloves when we make the food, but some times they don't. I am glad that I am working frontline now and do not have to be a party to what happens in the kitchen. :P

There are so many things wrong with what you are saying about the operation of your Arby's Vuk. Is the "she" the owner or a manager? I can't believe Arby's corporate would tolerate that. If she's changing expiration labels, then obviously the Health Department would have a fit too. I couldn't work under those conditions.

My backline trainer is the one who switches the labels, but I am pretty sure that my manager knows about it. And trust me Gregoshi, it is a lot worse than what I said too. My manager and the other employees are always fighting with each other, my manager has thrown a pack of strawberries (a little cup of them that we put on top of shakes) at one of the employees before. Everyone who works there is trailer trash, and my manager is a crack-pot. It is more a circus that it is a business. I have already spoken to the store manager about my shift manager's behavior, and she said that she would talk to her. I am not going to mention the labels (at least yet), because I am not sure if my store manager does it too (she also manages a shift), and I don't want to get fired. :P

There are no job alternatives? I couldn't work there and keep a clear conscience knowing what filthy, rotten crap I'm serving people. Clean, fresh crap I'm okay with. Or, if I couldn't quit, my customer greeting would go something like "Welcome to Arby's. I'd steer clear of the roast beef today - it is a bit rancid. May I take your order?"

Love Jimmy Johns. And for anyone in the American southwest, I'd also highly recommend In-N-Out Burger.

edit: my worst fast food experience, on the other hand, was getting food poisoning from a Mickey Dees in Wendover, Nevada. Cleaned me out from both ends. I've avoided McDonald's like the plague ever since.

According to the all knowing wiki:

A variety of substances are considered as harmful (haraam) for humans to consume and, therefore, forbidden as per various Quranic verses:

    Pork meat (i.e., flesh of pig)[Qur'an 2:173]
    Blood[Qur'an 2:173]
Animals slaughtered in the name of anyone but Allah. All that has been dedicated or offered in sacrifice to an idolatrous altar or saint or a person considered to be "divine"[Qur'an 2:173] [Qur'an 5:3]
    Carrion[Qur'an 2:173]
An animal that has been strangled, beaten (to death), killed by a fall, gored (to death), savaged by a beast of prey (except that which you may have slaughtered while it was still alive)[Qur'an 5:3]
Food over which Allah's name is not pronounced (or at least not in a name other than Allah)[Qur'an 6:121]
    Alcohol and other intoxicants[Qur'an 5:090]

Or as we like to say, not a hope in Hell.

Exactly what is wrong with eating Pig? Or an animal that was killed by strangulation? It all seems bizarre to me, rules for rules sake.
