Thread: EB map bug?

    Default EB map bug?

    Okay, and Hi..

I've checked through the forums and can't find anything that matches my problem; if it's there, I've missed it, in which case sorry for starting a useless new thread.

I'm quite early into a Romani campaign, and I'm trying to expand reasonably historically (been fun watching the Epeiros cut down to size by the Makedons after causing me problems early on..). Anyway, enough of that. I've taken Sicilia, and three of the Qarthadastim's African provinces. I then try and send my diplomat down to anothe of their provinces further down the East coast of Africa and.... as I move the map down the game, and PC, just shut down.

It strikes me that this area of the map is an EB extension of the RTW map, so I'm wondering if the problem might be something to do with that....

Any help would be greatly appreciated, cheers.

I have somewhat differences to understand your issue.
Do you mean, that if you scroll on campaign map to a specific region, the game itself will CTD? In that case try first to turn the campaign map shadows off, mostly this helps.
If I misunderstood your point then you should elaborate it a little more ;)

Hmmmm... I wish that that were the solution. I saw this offered many times as a fix for so many problems so I tried it (turning off the shadows), only to find that I never had them turned on. But, thanks for the suggestion.

You have understood my point very well; when scrolling down the campaign map a point is reached (suspiciously about the southern boundary of the RTW map) and the game, and my PC, crash.

Are your graphical drivers updated? This could cause some sort of CTD.
Are any mini-mods installed that affect campaign map or descr_strat? Did you change anything related by your own?
Please run also validateinstall.bat found in your RTW folder and post your results here.

Thanks for the help, and I may try these things anyway ... however my immediate problem (not being able to continue the campaign) has been solved thanks to my ten year old son; he simply suggested that, instead of scrolling the map I click onto the area I wish to move to. Problem solved

    Okay.., now this is getting weird. Ran validateinstall and got this;

First, the validation will prompt you to download a checklist.
Then, it will check your installation against that list.

If the program immediately exits, you may not have Java installed.
You can get that for free from http://java.com/en/download/index.jsp

If you are running Vista and installed EB under Program files, you may
get a blank results file. On Vista, you need to install EB outside of
    Program files.

Press any key to continue . . .

Validation is complete. There should now be a new file called
"ebValidationResults.txt" in this directory. Open it by pressing any key.

Press any key to continue . . .

No prompt for any checklists, and a blank ebvalidationResults.txt !?

I'm not running Vista, just a simple Windows XP, 2002 Professional SP2. I have RTW installed at C:Rome - Total War, and EB installed in that folder.

Do you have Java installed? If yes, try this altered validation:ftp://europabarbarorum.org/Validation/validation.zip

Yes, I have Java installed, even checked for any upgrades that my PC might have missed.... Used the altered validation and got the same result; a blank validation result and no checklist..... And, though I can click on the area, if I click too far it still CTD. Very frustrating.

Sadly sometimes the validation tool doesn't work with specific builds.
My last idea would be to backup your settings+saved games and install completely new, this thread may help you: https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=80270
    This often brings a miracle...

Its a miracle... Uninstalled and then re-installed (in a re-named folder) and all now works perfectly. Cheers
