Thread: EB 2 multiplayer (campaign)

    Default EB 2 multiplayer (campaign)

Since the EB 2 will run on M2TW Kingdoms will it have the mp campaign possibility like the ones mentioned in the forums:

"There are several versions of (M2TW) multiplayer campaigns. One of the more popular versions I have seen on the GeneralsCollective (link is in my profile) is played by each player in turn, and the saved game then sent via email to the next player. Battles are fought by autoresolve. The drawback is that you actually have to trust all players to play fair (ie no cheat codes etc.). Doing this version of the multiplayer campaign actually involves installing a small program on your computer.

There are a variety of other versions out there. I think Stig regularly plays in one of them, iirc.

If you want to play battles against your brother, you have to have two computers. "

Will this be possible in EB2?

It sounds like the technique you mention will can be applied to EBII without EBII specifically incorporating it. That is, it sound like the version you're describing should work for just about any mod?

I hope this can be incorporated into EBII. It would be real fun to play against no AI opponents.

I have been wanting to play an EB campaign with my friends since i first came across this beautiful mod. Kingdoms allows multiplayer to take place by hotseat on a single computer if this could be incorporated into EB it would make EB II much better for me

If you are interested in multiplayer hotseat games you should check out the Throne Room here at the org, where there are a number of such campaigns going using various mods such as Stainless Steel and Broken Crescent.

In fact I have hosted several of these games and I'm waiting eagerly for the release of EBII so I can host the first EBII hotseat campaign!

I will be sure to post here to recruit players for that game once it's up and running.

Good grief, that would be awesome! I was aware of the "hotseat" feature, but really didn't know what its use was. It's sad that battles have to be autoresolved, but I guess that's the only practical way to do it.

Actually you don't have to autoresolve battles - the alternative is that attacker, whose turn it is, fights them against the AI.

Of course the AI is not nearly as careful with your troops as you would be, so this creates particular campaign map strategies which, in my opinion, make hotseat strategy very different from normal SP gaming. For example you need to plan your invasions carefully so as to achieve your goals quickly without leaving your invading armies vulnerable to reprisal attacks by the defender.

Spies, forts and siege equipment become very important.

Neither option (autoresolve or fighting battles against the AI) is perfect and there are usually games with each ruleset going on at the same time in the Throne Room - stop by and check them out!

Throwing nothing but stacks of levy spears and slingers would be probably pretty decent. Even if they only kill 1/5th of your army, it is economical.
Fighting isn't about winning, it's about depriving your enemy of all options except to lose.

uh yeah, and hotseat campaign = elite forces will be worthless, the autoresolve AI will throw them like junk and keep the levy spearmen intact

yeah, elephants are formidable in autoresolve, horse-archers are lame

however, as I said above, you aren't forced to autoresolve battles in hotseat mode, you can fight them, it's just the AI will take over the defending army.

I would really, really, like to play EB2 multiplayer campaign. Dont think I would play anything else in fact. Human vs Human beats any AI experience.

You have to play more aggresively and fortify your armies whenever possible as you cannot fight battles on the Ai's turn, only on your own.

Forts do not protect against human players who can send some spies into your fort to open it's gates. And if that happens you can say good bye to your army.
