Default Kingdoms is currently $15. Worth it? Will it break mods?

    Hi all,

So I have failed to get STW or MTW working on my too-new rig, so I'm considering bitting the bullet and giving M2TW another try. I didn't really like it when it came out. I didn't like the castle vs. city dynamic, still miss the risk map, didn't like the lack of titles and such that you had in MTW, blah blah blah.

But I found DarthMod, which seems to be the only big mod that doesn't require Kingdoms and is acutally finished. If there are others, please let me know. I also found a few others that require Kingdomes (like The Long Road, Europa Barbarorum 2, etc.) but they're not even in beta yet it seems.

So I'm wondering if Kingdoms, currently $15, is worth it. I'm not too impressed by what CA has said it added (some native american factions and some mini-campaigns) but I seem to recall it added more, like those regional titles I miss so much. What do you see as the biggest reasons to get Kingdoms?

Also since Darth Vader is not supporting DarthMod for M2TW anymore, does anyone know off the top of their head if Kingdoms would break the DM mod?

I can't comment completly on you post, but I can provide a few tidbits. As far as mods go for kingdoms, I've heard people praise Stainless Steel. I tried it a while back and found it quite entertaining. More cities, new units, stat tweeks (I think), etc. I don't even think I had to patch kingdoms to 1.5 if memory serves, at least for the version I downloaded. I wanted to try Deus Lo Volt for Kingdoms 1.5, I guess it is very detailed in gameplay (can't remember how...diplomacy perhaps) but my version of Kingdoms wouldn't patch to 1.5. I played the custom campaign mod with tweeks the vanilla M2TW and adds new campaigns, spain, england/ireland/scotland/wales, and a completely new map, among others. The campigns that came with vanilla Kingdoms weren't that bad, I didn't play them a whole lot but provided for an interesting expansion pack which I think is worth the money. Other than what I have typed I can't help you much more with my opinions. I hope they were of some use! I downloaded all the mentioned mods on TWCenter by the way.

    Some more tidbits:

Buy it and you will love Kingdoms. The small mods alone are worth the price. More mods are a plus. You may still play M2 without Kingdoms - it acts as a mod.

btw -- check out the tech areas -- you should be able to still play STW (I do not have RTW, but I suspect there are fixes to get it going as well)

Would you expect less from a Viking?

Kingdoms is fantastic, especially if you love a specific area of medieval history (I fell in love with the Baltic crusades after playing the Teutonic campaign) and the mods for Kingdoms are on par with or better than those for Medieval II.
Buy kingdoms. Play it. Get Stainless Steel (possibly the best mod I've ever played). NAO

IIRC, Kingdoms doesn't really affect Medieval II. It just installs its own campaigns with new features and such and doesn't really alter the original. Your Medieval II mods should work fine with Kingdoms.

kingdoms is like a mod, well four mods. it installs in a mod folder and does not effect med2.
quite a few mods require kingdoms, so i would recommend it.

Some mods to recommend: Stainless Steel, Broken Crescent, Kingdoms Grand Campaign Mod, Third Age Total War.
