Smile Where and How to post saved games to fix a bug

For any who can assist me, I'm simply asking to be redirected or given instructions on how to post a saved game to fix a consistent bug i have tried to eliminate. Once i am redirected, i'll post the specifics, but I figured i might as well state the issue here for anyone who knows how to get around it without annoying the bug-hunters with my personal issue. I installed RTW. EB1.1 and EB1.2 to C:/games, and dowloaded and installed the 1.2 fixes (i think). Everything ran smoothly for a while but after several (in game) years of CTD-free play, crashes started happening again. I wait 10-15 seconds after the battle report comes up, do not save right before battles, and other tricks i've learned from this forum. The first CTD occured right after a long, big battle, then after i ended the turn, then once in the middle of the turn. Each time i just loaded a previous save and continued, but they are getting more frequent and it makes it difficult to play. Again, redirection or assistance is highly appreciated.

This is the thread you are looking for: https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showt...ost-a-SaveGame

If the reason for your crash is not repeatable, I fear posting it won't help a lot (besides fixing possible rebellions). If you haven't, then check the hints given in the Frequent Encountered Issues about CTD's: https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=103681

PS: Oh, don't misunderstand me, I'll sure check your game if you upload it!

Thanks for the info! Here are the three saved files and the autosave. The most recent crash took place last night right after the autosave, when I had ended the turn and the Asturian rebels sallied out to attack my army on the last season of the siege. I got as far as the battle screen, where I selected "Fight battle on battle-map," and right after that the game crashed. My guess is if you are kind enough to check these files, you probably will not encounter the same crash, but rather one later on. Typically that's how my games worked; I would re-load the previous save and get past the CTD with no problem, only to have another one later on. Typically, the longer I played, the more i could count on a CTD happening. As I said before, however, there is no pattern as to when these CTD's occur. They happen on the end-turn, right before a battle, and right after a battle, and that one right in the middle of a turn. If you could give me any advice as to what is wrong or how i can fix this, i would be incredibly grateful. I have never had a complete EB game thanks to CTD's, and my limited software tech knowledge inhibits me from doing much about it.

p.s.-not sure if i should use a "password" with these files, i didn't know if that would be helpful or not

You don't need a password, there is no personal data stored in the .sav format.

I'll check your saves at weekend, no access to my disks until then.

    Hello Stelios,

your games are corrupted. It seems as if you installed the 1.2 patch into a wrong folder or/and put the 1.2 fixes into wrong places. In all of your saves the FM have traits that signalize that very clear. Therefore the instability of your current campaign (and maybe the forerunners too).

My advice would be to install complete new.

To do this, first de-install EB and RTW
Install RTW and patch it to 1.5 (most 'modern' copies are on 1.5 from beginning)
Copy this installation to a safe folder, just in case you need a fresh RTW
Install EB 1.1 into your RTW folder
Install EB 1.2 into your RTW folder (not into the EB folder)
apply the fixes (you can get them from my signature

Huh, go figure. So the problem was only with where I installed 1.2 and the fixes? Meaning, the location of RTW and EB1.1 were fine? I thought I installed them into the same place, I guess not. Anyhow, thanks for checking it, I am taking your advice and I wiped all trace of Rome and EB off my computer (as far as I know...I can still find them in the recycle bin, but I removed them using the add/remove programs function and deleted all shortcuts that were left), and reinstalling RTW now. I took the earlier advice I was given and installed it to c:/games again, which I suppose should work. How and where would I copy this new installation to a clean folder (again, sorry for my technical incompetence)? Should I just create a new folder from the desktop, select RTW, control copy it, then paste it into the newly created folder?

Nvm about the copying, I had help figuring that out. I installed EB1.1 to C:/games where RTW is, and I downloaded 1.2, and I will install it tomorrow. I'm just being anal about everything because I would prefer not to have to do this all over again (for maybe the seventh or eigth time), so I am sorry if i am an annoyance.

Just take care that 1.2 is installed also in the RTW folder and that the fixes are put in their right place, this should get over most common CTD's issues.
You should be able to get to your old point in your save-games in short time as you haven't played that long, hope in your new campaigns everything works alright!

well I believe I installed everything to the correct directory this time, and I got multiplayer EB1.1 to work last night. Today I installed 1.2 and unpacked the fixes to the same location as RTW and EB1.2, so i think i did everything right. Then i loaded single player, deleted all my old corrupt saves (which were still there for some reason), selected a Romani campaign, started it, and got as far as the little EB intro video. Then it crashed. I have never had a CTD before starting any campaigns before, so i am pretty irritated. I hope it's not another error on my part in installing things to their correct places. I remember seeing some thread about CTD's before even starting the campaign, but i dont' really know how to use the seach function and cannot find it....would you (or anyone) help direct me to where i can correct that issue?

ok, i tried using direct3d sound provider instead of the miles sound system, off of some hints i found on the forum. I don't know if that did it, but i tried starting a makedonian campaign and a romani campaign, and both work fine now....so i'm cautiously optimistic at present. Hopefully it was a one-time thing.

I am thirty years into a roman campaign, and thus far no in-game ctd's, and only the occasional pre-game ctd, but i think overall it should be working. I think the problem has been solved. Thanks very much, XSamatan
