    Default How to made chariot riding generals more useful on siege?

    I meant, how to tweak their stats so they could actually used in siege battle inside the settlement....

    no, changing Casse bodyguards to infantry or cavalry one is not the answer I want to heard, I want to get some input on how made Chariot riding generals usable on siege, especially melee urban combat... I've tried raising damage and secondary armour, but they still die like flies...

    Only way I use them in a defensive situation is to pick a choke-point that the enemy have to come through (ie gate or wall breach) . Stack your melee troops to defend that point and have the general in behind them in guard mode. If done properly he can still use javelins, improve the morale of your troops and scare the s**t out of the enemy hopefully causing them to route en masse. Then it's slaughtering time as they run away :)

    Agreed . Chariots are not built for small spaces. they need flat open groud to make an effect

    PS: why not try slinger spam or better yet javelin spam ? does wonders in sieges

    Chariots should not be used to assault settlements. End of story. They should stay outside and rely on the rest of the army to do the job.

    And if the rest of the army can't do the job without the general, then the rest of the army is too small. When assaulting an enemy settlement, you should have a numerical superiority over the enemy.

    Alternatively, you can make the enemy sally out immediately by besieging the city with a smaller army than the garrison. The enemy will pour out of the main gate to attack you, allowing you to use your chariots against them.

    With the Casse, I sometimes launch raids with my chariots against enemy towns. Just using chariots and missile troops, no heavy infantry, but with several FMs in the army. The enemy army sallies out to attack, and I use my chariots as skirmisher cavalry, just staying out of melee and throwing javelins. Chariots have almost unlimited ammo, which compensates for them not killing many people with each volley. If you have several FMs this tactic can be quite effective in whittling down the enemy army at little cost, especially with slingers or skirmishers in support. Since the chariots are FM bodyguards, providing the FM himself isn't killed, their bodyguards replenish any losses automatically over the next couple of turns.

    It doesn't even matter if you can't get in the town gate, even if you retreat most of the enemy you've killed will stay dead. Then you can come back later with your heavy infantry and assault the town for keeps.

    The Chariot was never made for the seige... you are trying to do something that is more suited fo Vanilla play.

    I agree, chariots were designed for open areas and to demoralize and open formations. In a town... they are just like tanks, easy to down.

    hmm, anyone here had experience by trying to create full melee chariot that working? the melee chariot swords animation seems to be bugged...

    I'm not sure if the swordsman on chariot attack animation actually works. It rarely occurs that they actually swing. I also don't know the kill radius that chariots actually have in melee. Can they kill directly in front of them or is it only on the sides?

    Well, chariots did work quite well in melee during the Bronze Age against very poorly trained infantry with low morale (armed peasants, basically.)

    Even in EB era chariots should prevail in melee against peasant-type units, freed slave militia and basic missile units like slingers and archers. Given sufficient numbers, they should even beat levy spearmen or basic skirmishers.
