Diana and I have a disagreement regarding what men notice about women. I, being a man, have my own opinions, and she, being a woman, is the one who is correct.
Now, here's the deal:
I hold the opinion that women paint their fingernails, toenails, wear false nails, wear lots of jewelry, get fancy purses, etc more for the benefit of other women, than as it pertains to attracting men. In my view, men aren't really concerned with long, pretty fingernails. I concede that they would care if the nails looked unkempt or dirty or cracked or whatever, but false nails and sparkles and paint aren't really things men care about.
She contends that women use long fingernails, false nails, nail polish, and jewelry to attract men, too, just like having long hair. She believes that men notice those little details or are important in factoring in attractiveness.
While I am sure the truth is somewhere in the middle, I would like to open up this thread with a questionnaire. Please indicate if you're male or female when responding (that means you, dudes with princess avatars and ladies with male avatars!).
1. Are you (if you're a man) or are men (if you're a woman) attracted by painted fingernails?
2. Are you (if you're a man) or are men (if you're a woman) attracted by longer nails or fake nails?
3. Are you (if you're a man) or are men (if you're a woman) attracted by jewelry?
4. Are you (if you're a man) or are men (if you're a woman) attracted to painted toenails?
5. Which do you prefer, long or short hair? (in general)
Thank you!
Feel free to post additional comments.

I am a man.
1. Are you (if you're a man) or are men (if you're a woman) attracted by painted fingernails? Don't really notice it.
2. Are you (if you're a man) or are men (if you're a woman) attracted by longer nails or fake nails? Once again, don't really notice it, not a big deal
3. Are you (if you're a man) or are men (if you're a woman) attracted by jewelry? I've noticed it sometimes but rarely. Sometimes if I do notice it it's because they're wearing too much of it.
4. Are you (if you're a man) or are men (if you're a woman) attracted to painted toenails? They make feet more attractive to look at I guess, but I still think feet are gross in general regardless.
5. Which do you prefer, long or short hair? (in general) Long hair, the longer the better.

1. I'm not attracted by painted fingernails, gaudy fingernails are a turnoff.
2. I find really long nails to be a bit off-putting actually, regardless if they are real or not. It seems 'fake' to me.
3. Excessive jewelry is a big turnoff, it also screams "fake". I find those belly-button piercings horrendous, and nose piercings even worse. As the old saying goes, "a little goes a long way," so tastefully done accents are fine.
4. Couldn't give a hoot if toenails are painted or not, I only tend to notice if it's gaudy.
5. Long hair. I absolutely detest short hair on women.
Additional commentary; I will admit the first things I notice on a woman is 1. her face followed immediately by 2. her.... chest region. My eyes always tend toward that area anyway on anyone, since I do not like making eye contact with people, but that is slowly changing.
Edit - I am a Jadacha hermaphrodite.
MAN
1. Are you (if you're a man) or are men (if you're a woman) attracted by painted fingernails? NO. Mostly disgusting.
2. Are you (if you're a man) or are men (if you're a woman) attracted by longer nails or fake nails? NO. Fake nails disgust me to some extent.
3. Are you (if you're a man) or are men (if you're a woman) attracted by jewelry? NO. You'll only notice it negatively when it's too much.
4. Are you (if you're a man) or are men (if you're a woman) attracted to painted toenails? NO. Rather disgusted.
5. Which do you prefer, long or short hair? (in general) DEPENDS. Long hair is fantastic and beautiful, but short hair can be the absolute epitome of attractiveness in certain cases.
6. Are you (if you're a man) or are men (if you're a woman) attracted by the penetrant smell of perfume? NO. It really puts me off.
1. Are you attracted by painted fingernails?
I don't think they add much, but I'm not repulsed by them unless they are over the top.
2. Are you attracted by longer nails or fake nails?
Not really.
3. Are you attracted by jewelry?
No. Jewelry is strictly for making other girls jealous.
4. Are you attracted to painted toenails?
Meh.
5. Which do you prefer, long or short hair? (in general)
Long hair.
I'm with Whacker on first impressions. Face, then shape. Little add-ons and trinkets don't count for much.

I get the feeling men see most of the things mentioned and subconsciously see the woman as easy, rather than more attractive.

Guy over here.
1. Are you (if you're a man) or are men (if you're a woman) attracted by painted fingernails?
Does not bother me. I do notice however the state of her nails. A woman's hands reveal a lot about her.
2. Are you (if you're a man) or are men (if you're a woman) attracted by longer nails or fake nails?
No difference.
3. Are you (if you're a man) or are men (if you're a woman) attracted by jewelry?
If it complements her, then yes. No over the top stuff, gets me away from her.
4. Are you (if you're a man) or are men (if you're a woman) attracted to painted toenails?
No difference.
5. Which do you prefer, long or short hair? (in general)
Long haired girls.
Accessories are mainly to show the competition between women, and that's it. A beautiful ring on a girl's soft hands looks stunning and plus it gives you something to talk about. If she has too much then it smells fake.

I am a girl.
1. Are you (if you're a man) or are men (if you're a woman) attracted by painted fingernails?
Yes
2. Are you (if you're a man) or are men (if you're a woman) attracted by longer nails or fake nails?
No. Nails should be of modest lentght. Fake nails are a bit of a turn-off
3. Are you (if you're a man) or are men (if you're a woman) attracted by jewelry?
Not really. I love jewelry as an elegant fashion accesoire. Not enough women however have restraint good taste, they might as well make a hole in hubby's platinum card and wear that around their necks - the function would remain the same.
4. Are you (if you're a man) or are men (if you're a woman) attracted to painted toenails?
Yes!!
5. Which do you prefer, long or short hair? (in general)
Long!!
6. Are you attracted to boobies?
Yes. There can never be enough boobs in my life. Women should walk around naked at all times. Curse my ancestor Ugh, for that dreadful day he climbed atop that rock and spoke to his tribe: 'people, I've got an idea...why don't we up and leave the tropics for the north, we can use the hides of mastodonts to protect us from the cold''
Very manly
1. Painted fingernails? I dislike it really.
2. longer nails? I used to associate it with witches actually. Still do. I think long nails are wierd, not attractive.
3. Jewelry? Not specifically. It can sometimes 'add' to her clothing and her look.
4. toenails: I don't know what could be attractive about it really...
5 Hair: I prefer long haired women in general. However sometimes a shorter style can fit the face/head and can sometimes add to her look.
In general I don't watch all these details. The face and the body (together with health condition, smell, level of Oestrogen, genes and fertility... but those kind of things are more biology if anything) are important but a lot of it is in the way she acts, moves and personality. Though sometimes a woman who isn't that pretty can be more attractive because of a certain fitting and well done look. So sometimes some accesoires, including jewelry, or hairstyle can add to. But personality and other factors can make a woman more attractive as well in my eyes. Fitting natural make up does work for me, but it has to be very subtle and natural, but even if it works its not concious. I guess it just makes me think she has healthier skin and more Oestrogen than she really has...
Conclusion: Face, body personality are of most importance. Though probably Oestrogen levels as well. Assecoires only add very little and only on rare occasions. Clever but subtle make up can work if done right. Often it makes them look like streetwalkers but then again I guess these days its what a lot of men are looking for...

1. Are you attracted by painted fingernails?
Not really. Garish colors no, the nicely manicured natural look is much better. A woman's hands and how she cares for/presents them says much about her.
2. Are you attracted by longer nails or fake nails?
Long nails are a bother and those fake ones with the designs seem silly.
3. Are you attracted by jewelry?
Tasteful & simple is more attractive to me. My wife's single strand pearl necklace with matching earrings and that little black dress...oohh lala.
Those "material girls" that like to flash those Hope diamond size rocks with more gold chain than Mr. T...screams high maintenance to me.
4. Are you attracted to painted toenails?
Clean is good enough for me.
5. Which do you prefer, long or short hair? (in general)
Depends on the girl. Short hair flatters some better than others. I definitely prefer my women with hair.

I think i'm a guy.
1. Are you (if you're a man) or are men (if you're a woman) attracted by painted fingernails? Nope
2. Are you (if you're a man) or are men (if you're a woman) attracted by longer nails or fake nails? Put off by them
3. Are you (if you're a man) or are men (if you're a woman) attracted by jewelry? Small things in ears, 1 in each. Possibly nose stud.
4. Are you (if you're a man) or are men (if you're a woman) attracted to painted toenails? Dont care
5. Which do you prefer, long or short hair? (in general) Hair is probably the first thing I look at. If it looks nice, thats a good thing, if it doesnt, move on.
1. Are you (if you're a man) or are men (if you're a woman) attracted by painted fingernails?
Depends, a nicely painted nail can be very attractive, but so can a plain one. Over the top looks ugly.
2. Are you (if you're a man) or are men (if you're a woman) attracted by longer nails or fake nails?
Nails that are too long are a turn off, and fake nails are absolutely hideous.
3. Are you (if you're a man) or are men (if you're a woman) attracted by jewelry?
I'm probably the wrong person to ask since I have a strange aversion to all jewellery, I can't even stand watches. No, I find all jewellery very unattractive.
4. Are you (if you're a man) or are men (if you're a woman) attracted to painted toenails?
Same as fingernails.
5. Which do you prefer, long or short hair? (in general)
Depends on the woman. Some look good with long flowing locks and some look good with a short, spunky haircut.

1. Are you (if you're a man) or are men (if you're a woman) attracted by painted fingernails? Naw, just want them clean.
2. Are you (if you're a man) or are men (if you're a woman) attracted by longer nails or fake nails? Naw, just want them clean.
3. Are you (if you're a man) or are men (if you're a woman) attracted by jewelry? Only if its simple and classy, like a basic necklace. Ambivalent about ear rings, and anything more than that is excessive and a turn off.
4. Are you (if you're a man) or are men (if you're a woman) attracted to painted toenails? Naw, just want them clean.
5. Which do you prefer, long or short hair? (in general) Long hair.
First and foremost, a woman must have a pleasing face. I don't consider this a terribly hard requirement, just means teeth are in good shape, no nose or lip piercings, a bit of makeup maybe, but nothing excessive caked on. Glasses aren't a problem unless they really clash with the rest of her. I will say that I've seen a few women out there who just weren't blessed with a good facial structure- a few who were otherwise very good looking but had a head structured like a bull dog. After that, a, uh, pleasing "overall structure" comes next. And it goes without saying she needs to be compatible with my personality.

1. Are you (if you're a man) or are men (if you're a woman) attracted by painted fingernails?
Doesnt make any difference to me.
2. Are you (if you're a man) or are men (if you're a woman) attracted by longer nails or fake nails?
Doesnt make any difference to me.
3. Are you (if you're a man) or are men (if you're a woman) attracted by jewelry?
I like modest earrings, maybe a modest necklace, but nothing over the top.
4. Are you (if you're a man) or are men (if you're a woman) attracted to painted toenails?
Doesnt make any difference to me.
5. Which do you prefer, long or short hair? (in general)
Long.
Personally, I notice pretty faces. Thats all I really want in terms of physical appearances. "Other physical features" are secondary.
Centurion1 04:52 08-03-2010
I am a heterosexual male
1. Don't really care for it. Natural or glossed is better but I'm usually pretty ambivalent
2. Long nails and fake nails are absurd and distasteful. I'm not from jersey. However, womens nails should be longeer than her mates.
3. Simple, elegant classy. Traditional ears peirced I have never dated a girl with a piercing in the facial area. I find it distasteful and ugly. Bellybutton piercings are icky too. I find body piercings gross on men or women.
4. Same as fingernails I prefer a clear glossed look, not a huge fan of colors.
5. Almost exclusively long and I dislike long braids for some reason. A nice fall down or ponytail is good for me.
What do I look for? Initially face then legs then abdomen. I go for athleetic girls tight musculed bodies. Breasts are nice of course but aren't top priority. The last three girls I dated were a softball pitcher (her right arm was bigger but it was sort of cool) a ballet dancer, and a soccer player.
I like a natural look, don't care about painted nails, do care about war-paint. Oh and hotpants, please don't, nothing like a loose summerdress causualy accenting a killer body.

5. Which do you prefer, long or short hair? (in general)
I am trans-gender.
1. Nope. I like well kept fingernails. Some painted fingernails can look just as attractive and sometimes more so than natural ones, but often it looks fake and unattractive.
2. Not at all. I prefer women with nails no longer than 1.5 cm from their fingertips. Of course I wouldn't not date a woman because she has long finger nails, but I much prefer them to be normal length.
3. The right kind of jewelry (very modest, conservative jewelery) can make a beautiful woman look like a dream. The wrong kind of jewelery can make her look like a lot of other things. :P As a rule I think, more is less, and a little goes a long way.
4. Honestly, could not care less. I generally do not look at women's feet anyway, but as with fingernail paint, it depends on the kind. I hate sparkely or obnoxious paint on toe or fingernails.
5. In general, I prefer long hair over short hair by a great deal. That said, some women really know how to look steamy in short hair. I think it depends a lot on the girl and the hairstyle itself.
I'm an object.
But I agree with the general view here that it either doesn't really matter or is even bad when it's over the top.
Whether long or short hair is better depends on her overall looks, generally medium I guess.
Oh and painted toenails are a bit worse than painted fingernails, more than one or two metal things in a face is never a good thing, I prefer none, ears are okay though, sometimes even positive.
1. Are you (if you're a man) or are men (if you're a woman) attracted by painted fingernails?
I don't paint my own unless I'm feeling experimental (such as painting them to match dyed hair or something), but I generally don't mind painted nails when they're one or two hues... it's when you see patterns and designs on them, I don't like that.
2. Are you (if you're a man) or are men (if you're a woman) attracted by longer nails or fake nails?
Long/fake nails are a hazard waiting to happen, whether the relationship is male-female or female-female; I hate them with a passion.
3. Are you (if you're a man) or are men (if you're a woman) attracted by jewelry?
I think it depends on the jewellery and how it completes their ensemble, as certain things are just a no-no for me; I sigh when I see a chavvy girl on the bus or down the street with more gold around her neck than Mr T, for example. I'd genuinely pity the fool.
4. Are you (if you're a man) or are men (if you're a woman) attracted to painted toenails?
They are neither here nor there, really... I guess one has to make feet look attractive somehow, right? As with fingernails though, I can't stand tacky patterns and such.
5. Which do you prefer, long or short hair? (in general)
For men, I prefer it short-to-medium length; really long hair looks ridiculous on a man, makes him look unkempt. For women, my tastes in hair are a little wider; I can dig the whole shaving bits of it off just as much as I can the more feminine look. :3
Those are my own responses to the questions as a woman, because I felt that the attitutes of men towards these things would largely be a case of "I don't care", and why should they? Just why would you find yourself attracted to someone because of painted nails or jewellery when they've got eyes, smiles, legs, boobs, wit, intelligence and hundreds of other things that are more important? :P

I am a bloke.
1. Are you attracted by painted fingernails?
As long as they're clean, otherwise meh.
2. Are you attracted by longer nails or fake nails?
Not really.
3. Are you attracted by jewelry?
Nope... but conversely too much or very expensive jewellery in a odd context can be a good warning.
4. Are you attracted to painted toenails?
Nope.
5. Which do you prefer, long or short hair?
Whatever works. I knew a girl with long hair, but the sides shaved really short, she was hot. Some girls look better with long, some with short, some with crazy.
Well it's been said before, above. Face is what initially draws my attention, otherwise you've got a prawn on your hands. And secondly, legs. Long legs.
Man.
The nails don't attract at all. Infact women with trim, clean nails would be preferable.
Long hair is better than short. A lot better. long flowing tresses.
As far as jewelry is concerned, IMO, jewelry can make a difference in certain specific circumstances. For instance I remember we had a young teacher at college who used wear slightly low-cut
salwar and this fine gold chain around her neck. She used to look very pretty and the chain added to her beauty.
ajaxfetish 16:31 08-03-2010
Man here:
For 1 through 4, the answer is no. Fake nails are probably a slight negative, the rest neutral: neatness is the important part.
For 5, I'm a fan of long hair.

2. Are you attracted by longer nails or fake nails? I don't care about them. Same answer as above.
3. Are you (if you're a man) or are men (if you're a woman) attracted by jewelry? I hate Bling. If a female wears jewelry, it is to compliment their look they are going for in that situation.
4. Are you attracted to painted toenails? I don't even look at toenails, but unless they are manky and not clean, I wouldn't care less.
5. Which do you prefer, long or short hair? (in general) I would go with Long hair, but ultimately, I don't care unless it is ugly. Women have a massive advantage in enabling to look however they want, with a large varability of styles. Short, Long or Crazy
On the otherhand, men have to pretty much have short-hair or they are considered gay or transgendered, having a large social stigma against them.
How many "Cute" males do you see with long flowing hair, perhaps in a dress, skirt, or even a blouse?
How many masculine females do you see, perhaps in a suit and tie, or similar?
If your answers are like mine, they are "Never" for the first and "Often" for the second, respectfully. Males are punished far more than females on their looks, since how many men look also identical in style, as if they are different, they receive significant discrimination and punishment. Women are far free in their choices.
For example, I could go to town with Secura, I will have cargo pants, tshirt and trainers, then Secura could turn up identical to me, basically, and could be considered "attractive".
There has never been a case where Secura has turned up, and I turn up with long flowing hair, a purse, and gothica-style dress and shoes with heels on and I doubt the females would find that attractive!
If some women choose to have horrible fake-tan, dyed pitch black mangy hair and tramp-stamps, it is their choice. But if anything, I know far more males who find this a turn-off than a turn-on.

1. Are you (if you're a man) or are men (if you're a woman) attracted by painted fingernails?
I never look at a womens fingers the first time I see them.
2. Are you (if you're a man) or are men (if you're a woman) attracted by longer nails or fake nails?
No, I prefer neatly kept nails shorter real nails. Maybe some nail polish.
3. Are you (if you're a man) or are men (if you're a woman) attracted by jewelry?
I think belly button rings and a small nose ring are kinda hot, apart from the whole earing business.
4. Are you (if you're a man) or are men (if you're a woman) attracted to painted toenails?
Nope
5. Which do you prefer, long or short hair? (in general)
Long hair, I cant stand short hair on women, though some can pull it off, the majority end up looking like dykes.
Thank you!

Do you consider Conan the Barbarian gay or transgendered when you see him?
I have relatively long hair (about from the top of my head to half my ears when cut, below my ears after I let it grow, certainly longer than most men) and I have seen manly men with even longer hair while most gays often seem to go for the same short haircuts all the other men have.
I have been mistaken for a girl now and then but that doesn't distract me a lot, I'd be mistaken for a broom if I had short hair.

Conan the Barbarian looks like he likes to dominate weaker males as women are too fragile for him, according to 'societies values'.
