Thread: Inavi: Howling Seas [Concluded]

The miller seems a little panicked, running from an end of the town to the other, waving a smoking raisin cake in the air.

Where is the mayor's daughter? I've not seen her all day...hope she wasn't mollested by anyone...with you all talking about her! DiY! You have to find a new home before the sun sets! Poor kid...poor kid...

Having spent several days sleeping off the worst hangover of his life, the Traveller finally recovered sufficiently to deliver his slurred verdict on recent events.

Why in the nine hells did I come to this horrible island? Seriously, if anyone knows, it'd be nice to find out. I have vague recollections of a tavern in Innsmouth, but after that it's all a blur...

And what's with all these weird murders, eh? Like that roulette thing. Creepy. It wouldn't surprise me if at least one of the Balseraph entertainers - the Dancer, the Guitarist, the Flutist, the Actress - is amongst those working against the town, so any of them might be a suspect. The Balseraphs do love their games of chance, after all.

Hmm... But the evidence points to a 'small figure' being responsible. And the whole roulette things seems a bit childish as well... You've been travelling with the Balseraphs haven't you, Renata?

I must say that I find it highly suspicious to sacrifice a clue as valuable as this diary in the interest of a keepsake fro a girl. After we read it, she can have it, but we need that information. I can't help but think that perhaps those determined to waste this clue don't want the diary read.

I am not pleased that the shipwright continues to ignore me, but the merchant's complete absence threatens to bring a halt to trade in our town. I therefore say we must seize his goods for resale.

No, it was also based on the murder picks, but he is not the only one, I think, that would have picked the murder victims. So the inactive part came into play as well. It hasn't helped to get him out of hiding though. Maybe he is truely just inactive.

What I am trying to ask, good lady, is what about the murders points to Tiberius specifically (or to anyone else, for that matter). You are using it as reasoning, but have not explained.

    EVENING UPDATE 3

The merchant, Tiberius of the Drake, was sitting quietly in a corner by himself when all the attention in the room was suddenly focused on him.

"What...what's going on?" he managed to stammer.

"You..." the healer said, pointing at him. "You did it, didn't you?"

"Did what?" the merchant said, standing up. He grasped his cane like a protective charm.

"The murders, doy." the town idiot said. "Even I know that."

The merchant's eyes went wide. "I did not! I won't stand for these insults..."

"Well, answer me this question," autolycus said. "Why did you even come here?"

    "What?"

"Are you serious?" the retired captain laughed. "Why would a merchant of all people come to visit this island in a private skiff? It makes no sense."

"I...I..." the merchant failed to answer. The villagers all murmured in excitement and began to point on accusing finger on the merchant. Could it be that the merchant was the murderer?

"NO!" the merchant screamed. The cane in his hand suddenly turned into a sword and he swung it viciously. "Back! Back! I don't want to ki-" The merchant's eyes went wide as he felt the black blade of the Mayor's Sword pierce his heart .

Romanic, the blacksmith quickly pulled the blade out of the merchant's body. The sword seemed to quiver with excitement as if it was happy at being used.

"Well, that's it then," the captain scowled. "Was he the culprit?"

"I don't think so," the watchman said. "Looking at his body, he's not a werewolf, and there's no proof as to whether or not he was the other murderer. Sadly, I believe that we have to conclude that...

The Merchant, Tiberius of the Drake, was INNOCENT

Every villager stood shocked. Did they just kill an innocent? The villagers could not escape from the inn fast enough. The mayor's daughter clutched her father's diary tightly in her arms as she journeyed home alone.

In a footnote, the editor comments that at this point, Donnelly was going insane as
syphilis tore through his system like a drunk driver. He is not to be trusted – many of
his claims are unsubstantiated and although he does paint a colourful picture, much
of what he says may have been derived directly from his fever. But I have been here
and I know, as Donnelly did, that this place is always half-imagined. Even the rocks
and caves will shimmer and blur, with the right eyes.

    Morning Update 4

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
"LET ME GO, YOU STUPID APE!" The village elder, Csargo, tried desperately to escape from his bindings.

"I think not," the figure said as he stabbed the elder in the stomach. The elder's eyes went wide open. "Weren't you going to interrogate me first?"

"Nah, this sounds much more fun," the figure slashed the elder's throat...

    Kaboooooooooom!

    "Now what be that noise?"

"What the hell happened here last night?" the Watchman asked.

    "Beats me," the shipwright answered.

A rather large area of ground lay pulverized as if a giant had trodden through it. The trees around the area lay uprooted...

and there was no body on sight. Or perhaps there very nearly was. The orphan limped into the town's gathering, hand wrapped tightly around the wounded shoulder.

The healer, for once, did not run at the sight of the bloodied orphan.
    ....................................................................................

The Child was playing near the beach. It was still raining, of course. The blasted storm cloud never seemed to go away. Thusly the beach had a very dreary feeling to it. The fact that there was the body of the dead Village Elder didn't help to the feeling at all.
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
    THE VILLAGE ELDER WAS INNOCENT

What did help to the feeling was a little puppet that washed ashore. The adults of the village shuddered when they saw the puppet. It seemed...rather intelligent looking...

Other subject in discussion was the disposal of the magnificent merchant's cane sword. Who would claim that?

Morning 4 Begins. Night comes in approximately 47 hours. Votes for the puppet in RED. Votes for the Cane Sword in BLUE. Accusations in BOLD. Supports in GREEN.

It strikes me that the Flutist, wideyedwanderer, has been keeping a suspiciously low profile, speaking rarely, and saying the bare minimum when he does.

The scholar surveys the scene where the orphan had been found. He examines the area for a bit, and then an idea strikes him (just like they always do).

Where is that town idiot, oh there you are Choxorn. Were you playing with any shiny objects last night, or even anything that made a big boom? Come on child don't be afraid to speak up and tell us. We can hardly blame you if someone of your intelligence didn't think of the consequences. We just want you to admit it.

The whole time the scholar spoke to the idiot he used exaggerated hand motions to make the meaning much clearer.

The flutist Wideyedwander strikes me as too quiet for a pererrreformer. I think Nictel might be a good choice for the cane sword. He's almost a man grown, and is old enough to have his first sword. He is a credit to his father.

The flutist wideyedwanderer has been busy performing a show for 48 people in a distant country known as Twc-land. The hit song of the show, "Zelda," has gotten over 300 requests per 72 hour phase, and has kept the flutist extraordinarily occupied.
