Thread: E-Readers

    Default E-Readers

    Afternoon all

I'm thinking about an e-reader and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions?

I've been looking at the Kindle on Amazon but opinions would be welcome.

With the price and specs of the new Kindle there doesn't seem to be any real competition to it AFAIK.

The new kindle looks good. I just wish I had the money to get one.

I own a Nook and love it.

It runs a version of Andriod OS, has a touch screen interface instead of a keyboard, has a user replaceable battery (unlike Kindle) and is a much more open platform than Kindle overall. The Wi-Fi only version is $150.

B&N is getting behind it with alot of freebies too. For example, you can read ebooks for free instore for an hour a day. And up until recently you could show your Nook and get a free coffee in store.

I'm not sure what B&N are but as I live in the UK it might not apply.

I don't know anything about the types of formats that Kindle supports or can use, in fact I don't even know if it's an issue.

I forgot that they don't have Barnes & Noble in the remote wilds of Europe.

Have you looked at Sony's readers at all? The Kindle may be a good choice for you- just make sure to do your research first. IIRC, the only way to load content on a Kindle is via Amazon. That's something I didn't care for.

Kindle is the best choice for the UK, since Waterstones works with Amazon for Book Retail. (So those books you see on Amazon are from Waterstones)

I actually got around to ordering one, for my father's 60th. Should keep him happy and if he dislikes it, I will simply "borrow" it from him. :D
