    Default Netherworld: Tainted Ashes [Postponed]

A young girl, age of perhaps six years, was at a brisk walk, bare feet pattering on the stone floor. Her navy blue night gown flowed behind her, and was nearly caught as she carelessly slammed a door as she entered a bedroom. She took a running leap onto a bed laden with blankets of many texture and color, though primarily purple. Waiting, sitting on a white, wooden rocking chair was a wrinkly, elderly man, with silver hair that looked preposterously windswept.

“Story time, story time!” The young girl chanted to the old man as she sat herself upright in her bed. “C'mon, granpa, its story time!”

“The grandfather's eyes twinkled and a smile adorned his face. “Of course, sweety. What sort of story would you like tonight?”

“I want something exciting!” she proclaimed. “Something new! I don't wanna another story about a princess in a tower!”

“Well, my dear....” he pondered aloud. “Something exciting... something new....” his grin slid further across his face. “Would you like to hear a story about granpa?” He asked her.

“Aww, but you can be kinda boring, granpa.” she pouted a bit.

“Oh, right, of course... I was being silly. You wouldn't want to hear it anyways. Might be too scary. Lots of angry spirits, and vengeful gods. Plus,” he looked at the sun nearly set outside a window on the far wall. “It would take you far past your bed time, and daddy wouldn't like that at all, would he?”

“Oooh, oooh, tell this story! Please, please, pleeaase!” The girl held up her hands in a pleading position and smiled at the grandfather with all the baby-toothed charm she could muster. He could only chuckle.

“Oh, well, I suppose.... if you insist. But this,” he leaned in with a wink, “will be our little secret. No telling daddy, alright?”

She nodded furiously, “You bet, granpa!” With a quick flutter, she nestled herself deep into the blankets before giving her grandfather a last nod.

“Alright, pumpkin. Long ago, before even I was born, the world was very different from today. People here on earth, when they were done here, went to be with the gods, in heaven, or were punished, in the Netherworld, by demons. If they were punished, they would be sent back here, until they could show they could be nice to everyone. But the ruler of the Netherworld was selfish and greedy. He tried to make everyone go to the Netherworld. The Gods were angry about this, so they sent their own to get everyone back. But in the end, the ruler was overthrown by his own demons, one known as Hades.”

“But the Gods weren't done. When they tried to get the souls back, they took Hades' old realm between here and the Netherworld. Hades wanted it back, of course, so he sent what he could to take it back. While the Gods and Demons were fighting, they awakened an ancient, powerful foe, Angra Mainyu. Angra had been in wait for thousands of years after being banished. He took the land between earth and the Netherworld. The Gods and Demons continued their battle anyways, thinking he wasn't important. Then, in a single day, Angra Mainyu unveiled his plan. In a single day, Gods and Demons alike turned on the Heavens and Netherworld and joined him, and he took the city of Babylon and all it's empire, in just one day. He vowed to the Earth, the Netherworld, and the Heavens, and rule them all. Now, what remained of the Netherworld and Heavens had to finally put their battle aside and unite against their common enemy. So they sent everything they had, all that was left, to Babylon, to put an end to him. Nobody knew what exactly would happen. But they knew that they had to give it everything. And when it would be over, a new world would be born."

“But what do you have to do with this, granpa?” She asked.

“That, my dear,” he answered with another wink. “Will be shown soon enough.”

    Game structure:

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
    - There will be three mafia families at the start of the game.

    - There will be a town overseer(director) role, who's primary purpose will be to determine the outcome of ties for lynches, as well as to select between multiple challenges for duels. If they want a particular method of execution, I will use it as well. I may alter lynch writeups as needed, however. The overseer will be elected on the first day, and chosen again every three day phases.

    - There will be a system which will bear strong similarities to Sigurd's Star Wars game(many thanks for inspiration, I was trying to come up with a proper execution and Star Wars was very clear) for the purposes of "promotion" of all players.

    - Though every player will be able to be promoted from their original position, certain roles will be able to be promoted further than the bog-standard townsperson. Thus, regular townspeople will not be able to become a Master(Don).

    - However, every player can obtain a position of high affluence- be it in a mafia family or a pro-town position

    - There will be a very small number of un-recruitable townsperson roles.

    - There will be duels, but they will not be tied to the lynch. The players will vote for one person to be lynched each day. In order to duel, a player must issue a Challenge: Player X. Challenges must be accepted, and cannot be retracted. Duels will not, as a general rule, end in death. However, a small number of certain roles will immediately slay those they defeat in duel. In the event of many challenges, the overseer will determine who duels.

    - There will be purpose to the duels. Every player in the game will be in one of three categories- human, god, or demonic. I have a system for balancing the three to a degree- however, as a general rule, the humans will have a slight uphill climb. Further, the duel may be able to tell the town the capabilities of the combatants. Since Angra Mainyu's forces are comprised of humans, demons, and gods, it will not tell role alignment.

    - Mafia families will consist of 5 roles to start.

    - Like Capo, every player can participate in night actions. Successfully participating in night actions have a small chance in promotion for each participant. However, this is only for a successful night action.

    - As a general rule, four "ordinary" townspeople can kill one player, and three can defend a player. However, promotions can alter this ratio.

Example- 2 players of rank 1(commoner), essentially a starting townsperson, and one player of rank 2(warrior) would be able to commit a night kill, or one player of rank of commoner and one player of warrior rank would be able to make a protection. Essentially, the formula for a successful protection is to have a combined rank of 3, and a combined rank of 4 for a kill.

However, protections are not infallible. A protection will fail against a night kill which has a combined rank of at least 2.5 times the protection rank. So, for the basic protection of combined rank 3, it will succeed in protection against combined ranks up until rank 8.

    - There will be at least one pro-town masonry group.

    - Given a game of doubtful alignments, there will be, most likely, two detectives.

    - There will be neutral roles, of course. There will be at least three of them.

    - Construction of mafia families: one Master(essentially a Don), who will be irreplaceable. If killed, the family does not lose. However, there many capacities the Don fulfills that cannot be done by anyone else. The faction will not be able to promote any to master. Further, there will be one Champion(essentially a Luca) two scouts(essentially mades), and fifth, secret role which will depend on the faction. The champion and Master are not replaceable, in terms of their capacities. The scouts and secret role will be replaceable.

-Masters investigated will show up as "loyal", unless the champion is killed. Once a faction loses their champion, the master will show up as "dis-loyal", unless they have committed a night kill. Once they commit a night kill, and their champion is gone, they will show up as "Seditious". Scouts and the secret role, until they commit a night kill, will show up as dis-loyal upon investigation, and will be shown as seditious of the night of a kill and after it. Champions will always show up as dis-loyal unless caught in the act of killing.

Regular townies will show up as loyal until they commit a night kill, and will show up as dis-loyal after the night of, and after, killing.

Other roles may show up as "unclear", indicating no alignment at the time of investigation. These roles will be able to help the town, or hurt it.

-Although there will only ever be the original three Masters, new mafia families may be formed. In order to form, a group of players must have a combined rank of a least 20 and consist of no more than four players. Essentially, the group must all send me coordinated night orders to "form family". The players must all spend one night consecrating their agreement, and must all survive that night phase. If any part of the consecration fails- be it one player not sending orders, or the players not actually having the necessary rank, it will fail and the family will not form.

    Rules:

Once the game begins, you will be sent a role PM. This will tell you what role you are, and determine your victory conditions, your abilities, etc.
The game will start with selecting an overseer phase, with no lynch. After that, there will be a night phase, where players may kill/protect/ect.... In the day phase right after that, players will vote to lynch whomever they think is guilty. The town will win when the mafias and any other threats have been eliminated. The mafias will win when they outnumber the townspeople and have destroyed any other threats.

While multiple forces are aligned against Angra Mainyu, they are not necessarily allies in a true sense...

Each role can perform an action in the night. This is accomplished by sending me a PM during the night phase detailing what you want to do, who you want to do it to, and who you want to do it with. It is important you and all your compatriots correctly state who you are working with and who you are attacking/protecting/etc..... Failure to do so will result in the night action failing.

NO QUOTING HOST'S PMS, NO QUOTING CHATLOGS, NO SCREENSHOTS, NO ALTERNATE ACCOUNTS, AND NO TRANSLATING PM'S-You may claim whatever you want, including role name, so long as you don't quote my PM's word for word, or very close to word for word.

The dead cannot reveal anything, including previous night actions, but they may participate as much as they want to contribute to general discussion. The dead also may not communicate outside the thread in any way, shape, or form relating to this game, be it via PM, chat, quicktopic, or other.

I do not allow Vote: No Lynch as an option. Period. You may abstain, however.

If you wish to take back a vote, you CANNOT do it by editing a previous post. I will not count it. Period. You must unvote:PlayerX in order to recant the previous vote. In order to vote for someone, you must do so in the usual Vote:Yaseikhaan style. Votes must be bolded, for reference.

WOGs will occur if a person does not vote 3 rounds in a row, or if they do not vote in 5 rounds in total. Please, please don't make me WOG you. It won't be a pretty death.

Suicides will only be allowed in the event of a person being very much unable to participate in the game. I do not allow suicides for any other reason.

No links to anything outside of this thread. Period. I don't care if it pertains to something completely irrelevant.

It would be very helpful for the sake of my sanity if player's kept a tally running.

DON'T MESS WITH THE TALLY! If I determine ANYONE is intentionally misrepresenting the tally, I WILL wog the offender immediately.

Voting periods will be 24 hours, though I may occasionally extend it to 36 if necessary.

Any ties in voting will await someone to break it. First vote to either person who is tied will result in lynch, regardless of any posts after it.

I would love to get to 50 players and huge game status, but if I must, this can be adjusted for large game status. I would rather not, however.

It is better to conquer yourself than to win a thousand battles. Then, the victory is yours. It cannot be taken from you, not by angels or by demons, heaven or hell.
